A Word From the President

Gudrun Giddings

Hej Alla,

Hope you are enjoying the fall season as we here in LA still appreciate the classic southern California weather with sunny and summer warm days.

The Swedish Film Institute has just announced Sweden’s entry to the up-coming award season with the feature film “A Man Called Ove”. The film has also become one of the biggest box office successes in Sweden of all time. The movie will premiere in LA this fall and we’ll of course let you know when and where in upcoming newsletters and via our social media. In the meantime, enjoy the movie trailer with English subtitles, just below.

We are very proud of SACC-LA member DICE that together with Electronic Arts is ranked as one of the best places to work for larger companies in Los Angeles. Congratulations to DICE and our friend and SACC-LA Board Member, Fredrik Löving who is the general manager at DICE. We have recently written a lot about the Swedish tradition of crayfish, now you can actually try it at SACC-LA member The Church of Sweden-LA’s dinner on September 17. Information on how to attend is found further down.

If you are not a SACC-LA member, but still want to promote your company, product or you have for example an event you’ll like us to publicize in Finally Friday, please click on the “Advertise in Finally Friday” box just below and we’ll be happy to discuss your needs.

Wishing you a sunny weekend!

SACC-LA sponsor Moods of Norway and the world class ice hockey player Mats Zuccarello have teamed up to create a special collection for fans of both sports and fashion. The essence of the collection is high-quality easy to wear unisex products for everyday use. The idea behind the collaboration between the Norwegian fashion house and the Norwegian superstar was born a few years ago. Through creative design meetings and a rapid exchange of ideas, between New York and Stryn, a casual and sporty collection came alive.

A big part of the idea behind the collection is to support the Zuccarello Foundation. The main goal of the foundation is to provide access to sport and other activites to kids and youth in Norway who need it the most. The Zuccarello collection includes caps, boxers, t-shirts, hoodies, sweats, shorts and a leather jacket.

The collection is available in Moods of Norway's store at 7964 Melrose Ave. and in their webshop.

Obama creating ‘startup visas’ to encourage foreign entrepreneurs to start companies in the U.S.

Great news for all the thriving Swedish startups!
On August 26th, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) proposed a new rule called the International Entrepreneur Rule. The program would grant temporary visas to startup founders from other countries if their companies meet certain requirements, like financing from U.S. investors.
To qualify for what the White House calls “startup visas,” entrepreneurs must own at least 15 percent of a U.S. startup, and demonstrate the company’s growth potential, investments from qualified American investors, and “significant public benefit to the United States".

The proposed rule has been published in the Federal Register. The public now has 45 days – which began Aug. 25th – to comment on the proposal before it is implemented.

So have patience - soon you might be able to take your startup to Los Angeles!
