Welcome to our newsletter for September.

This month's newsletter is a special "No to The Northern Access Corridor" edition, where we examine the Local Plan in detail; report on the backlash to the proposed plans; gain press coverage for the issue; and send a press release of our opinions on the matter to those in power at Newcastle City Council. We will be keeping a close eye on the next phases of development, in particular with the Council pressing on with the Haddrick's Mill plan.

In addition, campaign chair, Katja Leyendecker writes of her experience as a cycle campaigner for the Cycling Industry News website.

Keep on pedalling!

FAQs On The Northern Access Corridor

Newcastle City Council have released a list of FAQs, and their replies to them, in response to the public outburst on the proposals for the Northern Access Corridor (Blue House to Haddrick’s Mill). We have taken a quick look and analysed the council's replies, and have some comments. To read these, and more about the issue in general, click here.

The Northern Access Corridor — Our Position In The Press

Two articles have been posted on Chronicle Live on this issue: one entitled 'Cyclists call for Haddricks Mill plans to be halted in wake of Blue House Roundabout u-turn', mentioning Newcycling Campaign's calls that Newcastle City Council drop plans for the Haddricks Mill roundabout; and the second saying 'Scrap Blue House and Haddricks Mill plans for ‘Dutch-style’ system prioritising bikes, say cyclists', with alternative suggestions offered to the city council's radical proposals.

Newcastle, We Have A Problem — Let’s Tackle It Together

In the press release aiming to put forward our view of the situation, we look at the scale of the problem and call on Newcastle City Council to act in accordance with their own policy for land use and transport planning: the Local Plan. Click here to read the press release, with images showing the scale of plans, and links to the Local Plan itself.

Key Tips For Cycling Campaigners

Finally, our chair, Katja Leyendecker, gives tips in an article for the Cycling Industry News website on cycling infrastructure campaigning, with her top five campaigning tips to use when starting a new campaign or for appraising an existing campaign. Click here for a link to the article.
