Sasha is a showstopper!  Handsome, confident, smart, playful, and as cuddly as a rag doll, he’s right at home being held and stroked, or dancing and prancing to his own tune.  He is outgoing and active, greets people of all ages with warmth and affection . . . and adores catnip!  Elegant, athletic, and with a coat like silk, Sasha will simply knock your socks off!

Another Happy Cat Success Story

Sarah

Loving, beautiful Sarah, at 8 years of age, has found a new, happy home!  She greeted us at the door when we went to visit, showed us around the place with her usual aplomb!  Her new family, Vanessa and James and their two lovely daughters, adore her.

Sarah had been returned to NMAF with health and behavioral problems three years ago.  NMAF’s safety-net kept her safe and treated her conditions until her new family found her.

We are very grateful for the support we have from our members, volunteers and veterinary care providers who make it possible for us to make a lifelong commitment to each of the dogs and cats we place.  NMAF provides a safe haven for all of our animals who are returned, no matter what the reasons may be.

Sally Sue & Ellie Mae Have a Home!

Sally Sue and Ellie Mae

Sally Sue and Ellie Mae have found a wonderful home with Bob and Susan, in a big, beautiful house in the northeast heights.  An organic garden and lots of birdies fluttering around in the back yard provides them with many daily hours of bird-watching joy!  Michele, their foster mom, said that she had never seen such instant love as when the girls met Bob and Susan.  Bob sat, Sally jumped right in Bob’s lap, and Ellie wound around both their legs asking to be petted!  We expect that this love affair will grow a lifetime!

We're moving!  NMAF's cats and kittens are no longer being shown at PetSmart.  Stay tuned for an update on the new location.  If you’re interested in adopting a cat, please fill out and submit an Adoption Application.  You can scan and email it to cats@nmaf.org or you can call Jeri at (505)350-7463 to make other arrangements.  Once we have had an opportunity to talk with you about your application, we will set up time and place for a visit with the kitten, cat or cats that you are interested in meeting!

DOG NEWS

NMAF saw quite a number of truly needy dog rescues in August.  With continued support from contributors like you, we can help these animals thrive and find loving, forever homes.

Maggie Mae

Maggie Mae came back to NMAF with a life-threatening condition.  Somewhere she sampled a toxic substance and was hospitalized with acute kidney failure.  Luckily, the staff at TLC Veterinary Hospital was able to pull her through.  Once she bounded back, she reverted back to the sweetest little dog, eager to give a kiss and a lick.  She may need a special diet to keep her kidneys functioning at top performance, but otherwise, she is a healthy, happy, little girl.

Luka and Clara

Luka and Clara were surrendered by their owner who could not afford to have them groomed, spayed/neutered or vaccinated.  Little Clara was so matted that she could not see out of her right eye.  Despite the hard times, their charming personalities were not affected!  Both are extremely good natured and social.  Both have been groomed beautifully and all their medical needs taken care of by generous donations to NMAF.

Bruce

Bruce suffered a leg fracture in August.  He is extremely little and fragile.  He had his front leg placed into a splint/cast and is now walking on it like it is part of his wardrobe!  He should have no problems once the cast is removed.  He looks like a little fox and has the sly energy to match!

Duque

Duque came from a confiscation in Carlsbad.  He had been left in a back yard and managed to acquire over 200 ticks.  Because of member support, he has been treated for those nasty little critters that had been sucking him dry!  He has been tested for tick-born diseases and is now in remarkably good health.  Duque is friendly, social and loyal to all humans.  He is no longer skin-and-bones but a sleek, shiny little friend!

All these little canine furries can be seen on our website.  If not on the "Dogs for Adoption" page, they can be seen under "Happy Tails" with the rest of the successful adoptions.  With your help, they will all have no memory of their previous trials and tribulations!

Intakes for August included:  Clara, Luka, Osito, Shorty, Lancelot, Emma, Blake, Josh and Payton.  Adoptions included Molly, Snuggles, Katydid, Purdy, Bozey, Winter, Chimama, Joker, Thunder, Dixie, Medford, Yummy, Harley, Croc and Payton.  A very nice August for dog adoptions!

Wolfy at His First Job - a Dog Safety Class

Little Wolfy was adopted by Stefanie.  Stephanie was bound and determined to get Wolfy certified as a therapy dog.  Being a scruffy, active little terrier, the NMAF adoption coordinator was doubtful, but lo and behold, Wolfy showed up with his certification!  Starting with the PetSmart trainer, he graduated this July!

His first job was with a dog safety class for children at Laguna Pueblo.  The tribal officers were so happy to see him that they wanted to have their picture taken with the dogs afterward.  His picture is above.  Wolfy is front and center!

Congrats to Wolfy and Stefanie!!!
