I hope y'all have had a wonderful summer! Here is an update on what's been new with me lately.

1) new articles
In August, I published a piece on Medium called Detransition, Desistance, and Disinformation: A Guide for Understanding Transgender Children Debates - it is my lengthy and thorough response to the current rash of mainstream media op-eds and think-pieces attempting to undermine the efficacy of gender transition, especially in the context of transgender children. The piece received a lot of attention - Vox.com interviewed me about it, and I later wrote this follow-up post in response to some people's concerns and mischaracterizations of the piece.

Back in May, I published another Medium piece called Expanding Trans Media Representation: Why Transgender Actors Should Be Cast in Cisgender Roles - it offers a somewhat different take on this frequently debated topic (which is unfortunately in the news again, due to the recently announced Hollywood films "Anything" and "(Re)Assignment").

Finally, Activism, Language, and Differences of Opinion (a compilation of essays) collects links to a plethora essays that I've written over the last several years on these complex and crucial subjects. This constitutes a large body of work that I have made freely available (not to mention ad-free) on my blog and Medium sites. I would really like to continue doing this, but to do so, I could really use a bit of help. Which leads me to . . .

2) Patreon
There are a lot of important issues (particularly with regards to trans, queer, feminist, and activist matters) that I would like to continue writing about. On a handful of occasions, mainstream media outlets have provided me the opportunity (and compensation) to do just this. But in my experience, they are far more interested in short pieces reacting to current events (e.g., whatever Caitlyn Jenner just did this week) and/or transgender & queer "101"-type articles that are easy for cis/straight audiences to digest. Frankly, I'd much rather continue to write more lengthy, thoughtful, and nuanced pieces, and to address "201" and "301"-level topics. While some of the essays I write (such as the ones I listed in the previous section) may eventually appear in a future book, books typically take years to come to fruition. And while I appreciate the occasional royalty check I receive for my previous books, they don't generate anywhere near enough income for me to make ends meet (as I'm more of a niche author rather than a "bestseller").

So for all of these reasons, I have turned to the crowdfunding platform Patreon to generate support, so that I can continue to write about these issues, and to make these writings freely available inasmuch as possible. If you choose to support me there (for as little as a $1 monthly pledge), you'll get behind-the-scenes updates on what I am working on, access to many of my in-progress & unpublished writings, plus other goodies - check out my Patreon page for all the details!

To get the ball rolling, I posted two Patreon-supporter-only writings (which you can access via pledging):
Anyway, I hope to see some of you there!
3) upcoming events
I have two events lined up for this month: And speaking of future events . . .
4) consider bringing me to your college campus!
Since a new academic year is afoot, I am looking forward to having the opportunity to speak/perform at various colleges & universities this year!

If you are affiliated with a college -- especially if you belong to a trans, queer/LGBTQIA+, women's, feminist, and/or social justice-related organization -- please consider bringing me out to your campus. And even if you aren't associated with a college yourself, feel free to forward this onto people that you know who may be students or staff elsewhere.

For those interested parties, I have a recently-updated booking webpage containing all the pertinent information, including short descriptions of some of my most frequently requested talks.

5) past & future books
In the beginning of 2016, I mentioned that I would have three books coming out this year. Two of these have already come out: Whipping Girl second edition, and General Surgery and Surgeons General: a Kat Cataclysm chapbook - you can find out more about those via the links.

The third and final book release for this year will be Outspoken: A Decade of Transgender Activism and Trans Feminism. I have been teasing this book release for quite a while, mostly because it has taken me longer than I expected to bring this project to completion. But unless something goes horribly awry, it will definitely be out this fall, probably sometime in October. All will be revealed in my next email update, so stay tuned!

6) new additions to my website
So I've updated my website in the last month. This included adding a bunch of new interviews to my Press webpage, and the following performances to my Audio-Visual page:
That's it for now. And remember, between updates, you can always check out:
