Accomplished Teaching In Action
David Allyn, NBCT saw a need & took action. The teachers and administration wanted time, space, and tools to connect as professionals. He started a PLC at Argonne Elementary focused on the book Professional Capital by Hargreaves & Fullan. They met monthly to talk, question, plan, and inspire each other.
Want copies of Professional Capital to start a book club of your own? Contact us and we'll get them to you, along with some guidance for how to get started.

Brought to you by U.S. Department of Education, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and ASCD, Teach to Lead® works to catalyze fundamental changes in the culture of schools and teaching so that teachers play a more central role in transforming teaching and learning and in developing policies that affect their work.
The Inclusion, Equity, and Opportunity Summit will bring teachers and other stakeholders together to incubate ideas for combating inequity and fighting for social justice on behalf of students.
Marna Wolak and Maria Woodworth, NBCTs in SFUSD, have both participated in previous Teach to Lead Summits.

Juan Lopez, NBCT
AYA Physical Education
Lowell High School
By getting to know my students as individuals, I create a student centered classroom. I challenge their weaknesses and use their strengths as a platform to build upon. I use teaching strategies such as front loading a Jiu-Jitsu lesson with YouTube videos, using fitness cards for my ELL/visual learners, and personally demonstrating fitness skills, so all students meet the learning outcomes. I also do check-ins with my students to get their feedback on what's working and how I can help them in my class.

Pursing Exceptional Needs
Grattan Elementary School
I regularly find myself integrating the deep reflective practices I have learned from this process.
One particular approach I have adapted from my NB work is video recording short teaching sessions to make sure that my lesson's goals were reached. Now I will often hit Record on my classroom's iPad and video a small group lesson so I can reflect on the effectiveness of the material and gauge if the students' goals were met. I see results every day in their depth of understanding and rigorous growth.
