Applications open for Innovative After Hours Grants Program 2016-2017


Eastern Melbourne PHN (EMPHN) is offering grants of up to $20,000 to general practices and pharmacies to enhance access to clinical care and medication dispensing in the after-hours period.

EMPHN is required to undertake a number of activities to address gaps in after-hours access to primary care services.

Move to increase access to GPs for teenagers welcomed by local health network


Eastern Melbourne PHN (EMPHN) has welcomed the announcement of the Doctors in Secondary Schools Initiative by The State Minister for Education, James Merlino.
 
The initiative will fund a new trial for general practitioners (GPs) to attend up to 100 Victorian government secondary schools up to one day a week to provide medical advice and health care to those students who might not have the same access to doctors as others. The pilot will be rolled out over two years.

Join the Eastern Melbourne PHN Board!

Eastern Melbourne PHN (EMPHN) is seeking applications from experienced Board members with a healthcare background (particularly primary healthcare). There are four vacancies, with three current Directors eligible for re-appointment.

Candidates with knowledge of health needs and issues in Melbourne’s east and north east along with strong experience in general practice, marketing and communications, information systems and technology advances, and health system reform will be well regarded. An understanding of the role of and background to the establishment of PHNs in the context of national health policy would also be advantageous.

EMPHN Supports GPs in Opioid Replacement Therapy workshop

The treatment of opioid dependence is a challenge faced by many general practitioners and Eastern Melbourne PHN (EMPHN) is committed to supporting GPs in this role.

EMPHN’s Quality Use of Medicine’s (QUM) Program supports GPs with training and information on the prescribing of opioid replacement therapies, such as opioids and benzodiazepines.

Stopping suicides: trial program at hotspot
Melissa Merrett, Whittlesea Leader

THE Whittlesea community is set to be on the frontline in the fight to reduce local suicide rates.

Support trials will be rolled through sports clubs, schools and networks in six regions across the state, including Whittlesea that have high suicide rates and vulnerable communities.

The Health and Human Services Department will run the programs to educate people about suicide and how to identify those at risk earlier.
