The beginning of a new term can present new opportunities for involvement and new challenges. This can be both exciting and stressful, but having good self care practices can help. We encourage you to seek out activities and practices to engage in on a regular basis that enhance and maintain your mental health and well-being. We hope you'll take the time to determine what you need to support you in the coming months.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), in partnership with The Jed Foundation (JED), released “Starting the Conversation: College and Your Mental Health,” a guide to help students and parents talk about mental health.  The guide contains information about mental health, privacy laws and how students can keep their parents informed if they are in need of support.

Back to School: Outreach Toolkit 

The 2016 Back to School Toolkit was designed for Mental Health America affiliates, advocates, and organizations of all types to use with parents, youth and school personnel to raise awareness of the importance of mental health issues that start during adolescence. For many of us, it's not always easy to know when our mental health is at risk. We have ups and downs, and get used to having a few bad days here and there. Sometimes we're the last ones to notice our quality of life slipping. Taking this quiz is a good start to living your life more fully. It won't give you all of the answers you need, but it will give you a sense of next steps when it comes to improving or maintaining your mental health.

Student Society Raises Awareness

The UBC Student Society has launched an awareness campaign for sexual assault on campus. The cardboard sleeves of coffee cups are emblazoned with the statistic: 257 students suspended for cheating or plagiarism, 0 for sexual assault. The objective of the campaign is to encourage students to offer feedback on the new sexual assault policy and ensure proper measures are in place for effective reporting.
