Helping Neighbors One Refreshing Cup at a Time!
|
|
Linnea and Ellary may only be 6 years old, but they are already making a difference in their community at this young age!
This summer, like many kids do every summer, Linnea and Ellary set up a lemonade stand to collect money in exchange for ice cold lemonade. But these girls did not collect money to buy themselves a new toy or sweets from the store. They had their minds set on helping their neighbors in need instead. In one day, they collected $80.54 selling lemonade and donated it all to Emergency Food Network!
Thank you Linnea and Ellary for your hard work and generous donation!

Roots! Cukes! Tomatoes! EFN's Mother Earth Farm tumbled into September with a rainbow of vegetables to cushion the fall, including an abundance of carrots, beets, radishes, and so much more. Crew and volunteers alike are working hard in sun and rain to get the harvest to our partner food banks while also making sure we have plenty planted to get us through the coming winter. Winter? It'll be here before we know it.
Also, shout out to Stew Bowen, our friend and partner at the Bonney Lake Food Bank - he lent a helping and knowledgeable hand when our tractor was in need, getting it purring again in no time. Thank you so much, Stew!

Thank You to These Wonderful Groups!
|
|
There are a couple wonderful groups we would like to thank for hosting some recent fun events to benefit Emergency Food Network!
The South Sound Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts hosted a Poker Run starting at our Distribution Center and ending at our Mother Earth Farm. Participants learned more about hunger relief in Pierce County and how the funds they raised for EFN make a difference in our community.
Harbor Christian Center put on a concert at Skansie Waterfront Park in Gig Harbor. At the concert they collected donations of food and money totalling 413 pounds of food and $761 all for EFN!
Thank you South Sound VME and Harbor Christian Center for supporting EFN and helping our community!

Andrea Smith quickly became an integral part of the EFN team when she started in our Warehouse Intern position this past April. She has been a huge help, dedicating more than 400 volunteer hours sorting food donations, building orders to go out to food bank partners, and ensuring the Mobile Food Bank was cleaned and stocked every day.
Andrea is a great representation of what teamwork and community means. New warehouse interns were quickly pulled under her wings on their first day and incorporated into the EFN team. She would assist with their training, working side-by-side until they were comfortable, and even visited with them while on break to ensure they felt included. She instilled in them what it means to be a team and having a great work ethic.
As a warehouse intern, Andrea was also able to see the inner-workings of EFN. "I had no idea how many people it took to get food out to food banks," Andrea said about her internship experience. While Andrea's internship with EFN ended at the end of August, she still plans on being a part of the EFN team by continuing to volunteer at the Mobile Food Bank while at the same time pursuing her education at Clover Park Technical College.
Andrea, we wish you the best of luck in this next chapter of your life! Thank you for being a part of the EFN team!

"People. Partnership. Performance." These are the three simple but powerful words listed on the Port of Tacoma's website. In the past month, Port of Tacoma employees and their families have shown us what these words mean to them.
Not only did they hold a Food and Fund Drive in which they donated the equivalency of 3,000 meals to EFN but 15 of their staff and families came in to our Repack Project and repacked more than 29,000 pounds of food. As they pointed on their Facebook page, that's nearly 1 ton of food per volunteer!
Thank you Port of Tacoma for being a wonderful partner and friend of EFN!
