September 24 ¡Batey Boricua!
Puerto Rico Se Defiende (Lounge) Join us for an afternoon of inspiration through music and dance and the voices of activists supporting the decolonization of Puerto Rico. Our two special guests, Xiomara Caro Diaz and Eli Jacobs-Fantauzzi, will share stories about their current political work in Puerto Rico through video footage, testimonials, and interviews, as well as updates on the economic crisis on the island. September 24 Cambalache (Chicano Son Jarocho group from LA!) Come dance along to the rhythmic sounds of Cambalache! Based in East Los Angeles, the group plays traditional Son Jarocho music, a blend of indigenous Mexican, African-Arabic sounds and rhythms, from Veracruz, Mexico. Cambalache (a word meaning “exchange”) is known for inviting the public to participate in their presentations and creating an incredible community atmosphere. September 26 Salsa Party with Orquestra La Peña Attention Salsa Dancers (beginners encouraged)! Every last Monday of the month, the Josh Jones Orchestra brings the raw power of salsa dura to La Peña’s stage. The band will perform songs from your favorite salsa artists including: Eddie Palmieri, Beny Moré, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, El Canario, Celia Cruz and many more. Monday, September 26, 9pm-11pm
