  • Seasons as Music Director of the Tacoma Symphony and Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra 
  • Debuts as a guest conductor of the Tonkunstler Orchestra, the Tulsa Symphony, the Yale Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of the Dominican Republic, the Transylvanian State Philharmonic Orchestra 
  • 2 performances of Tan Dun’s Water Passion in both Tacoma and Athens, Greece

Water Passion proves the Tacoma Symphony's musical chops and vitality.

"A host of forces, from conductor Sarah Ioannides to the Tacoma Symphony Chorus to soloists, stage crew and sponsors came together Sunday afternoon at the Pantages Theater to perform Tan Dun's epic "Water Passion." Holding all these forces together along with the dramatic lighting (red for bolded, gold for rebirth) and amplified sounds was Ioannides, whose personal connection to Tan Dun made the piece possible in the first place. " (Tacoma Tribune).

Upcoming!  2016-17 concerts in October & November include world premier by Marie Samuelsson with the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, Pärt & Glazunov with Vadim Gluzman, Philip Glass' Violin Concerto arranged for Soprano Saxophone with Amy Dickson & multimedia performances with the Hawai'i Symphony.

In June 2016, Ioannides conducted Water Passion by Tan Dun when the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) in Athens, Greece, opened its doors to the public for four days and nights of cultural events under the title Metamorphosis: The SNFCC to the World.

For the U.S. Premier Production of Symphonic Django, in April 2016, Ioannides showcased the talents of GRAMMY-wining guitarist John Jorgenson, along with gypsy-jazz violinist Benjamin Powell, Greg Ruby, Neil Andersson, and Jon Hamar with the Tacoma Symphony!
