Dear Church,

This Sunday, we will begin worship at 10:00.  Sunday School begins again, and we will continue our look at God's promises as we journey through the Old Testament this fall.  Looking at a part of the story of Abram/Abraham in Genesis 15.1-6, we will be exploring the correlation between faith and doubt.  In Chapter 12, God promises Abram that he will have a son, through which, God will bless the whole world.  When we get to Chapter 15, Abram begins to question God's ability to deliver on this promise.  So, God restates the promise.

God’s promises to Abraham are personal, but their intentions are universal – to bless the whole world.  Despite all the crazy and painful circumstances of Abraham’s life, God is ultimately faithful to God’s promise.  No matter what our circumstances, we can trust that God is faithful – always with us, always working through us for good – even though, like Abraham, we may doubt God's ability to deliver.  And that sets us free to be about our calling to bless the world, “birthing” many descendants into God’s mission.

Speaking of descendants of our faith, this Sunday we will celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism as we officially welcome Riley Finn Simon into the Body of Christ.

See you in church,

Pastor Jeff
