A Work/Life Newsletter To Help You Reach Your Potential
Dear Friends,

We often hear "learn how to say 'no!'" But in my work, I am more concerned about women not saying “yes" enough. Yes to fun. Yes to a moms' night out. Yes to date night. Yes to letting our kids have dessert before dinner. Yes to enjoying life a whole lot more.

Yesterday I said yes to traveling an hour to do a CBS Facebook Live interview with my friend Jill Simonian, and I ended up having a blast and making a new friend, Pat Harvey. Here we are.

Yes please!

SAM'S CENTS

Inspire a Child’s Potential

I grew up with parents who said “I love you” every single day. Saying “I love you” isn’t just a way to express an emotion; it helps create a safe, warm family culture. As moral development expert Michele Borba explains, “‘I love you’ plants the most important message. Our kids need to develop those critical beliefs that say ‘I’m a worthwhile person.’ Our words become their inner dialogue.”

Beyond “I love you,” what else do kids need to hear constantly? When I hosted my talk show Obsessed TV, nearly all interviewees had one thing in common: their parents made them believe they could be anything. Whether it was NBC’s Al Roker, whose father drove a bus, or candy entrepreneur Dylan Lauren’s famous father Ralph, each grew up hearing that the sky was the limit, and that if they worked hard they could achieve anything. I researched this further and found that this commonality is indeed shared by many of the world’s most extraordinary people, from inventor Thomas Edison to Supreme Court justice Sonia Sotomayor. So share this message with your own kids: “You can do anything, you can achieve anything. You can be and become anything.”
