Welcome to this week’s e-news.
With only one week until the Charity Golf Day at Rockliffe Hall there is still a chance to come along as we have a couple of four-ball teams now available. The day is being held to raise funds for the Construction Industry Charity, The Lighthouse Club and we are pleased to be supporting such a fantastic organisation that gives to those in need in the industry. We are looking for donations towards raffle prizes and if you would be interested in offering a prize or taking one of the last available team places please contact us as soon as possible.
Last Friday afternoon Leanne and I attended the Howarth Lichfield Partnership Networking and Drinks at Hatfield College, it was lovely to catch up with so many of you and to view the showcased projects. Leanne was also lucky enough to have won the Champagne Draw!
This week has been exceptionally busy for CENE, with events everyday this week so far. On Monday evening we held a joint presentation and visit to Auckland Castle with CIOB North East. It was great to hear of the future plans for the regeneration of the Bishop Auckland area and the castle and we look forward to seeing it as it progresses over the next couple of years.
On Tuesday we held the North East Construction Summit at the Newcastle Marriott Gosforth Park Hotel and what a fantastic turnout. We would like to thank each one of our speakers for their insightful presentations on the Government’s Review of the Construction Strategy. Thanks to John McGovern, NWG for Chairing the Summit and to Don Ward, CE; Cliff Jones, Dept of Health; Richard Waterhouse, NBS; Mark Crosby, CITB; Stuart Pollard, Thames Tideway Tunnel; Tim Whitehill, Project5 and Darush Dodds, Esh Group. Our thanks also go to Mark Thompson, Ryder Architecture and NELEP Board Member, who led a ‘Question Time’ style discussion with panellists Bex Gill, Arup; Natacha Redon, Identity Consult; Clive Belfield, WSP / Parsons Brinckerhoff and Pete Watson, Atlas Cloud for taking interesting questions from the audience on Brexit, Procurement, Skills and ‘the voice of industry’. And finally we would like to thank all our exhibitors for their support, which included Robertson Construction, Bradley O’Mahoney, NBS, RIFT, CIOB, ICE, CITB and NAWIC. If you were unable to attend and would like a copy of the presentations, please let us know.

Speakers included Mark Stouph who gave the Health & Safety update and Simon Catterall who spoke on recent Sentencing and how things have changed in recent months with to the larger amounts now being fined. We would like to thank Simon and Mark for their interesting presentations and Karen Robinson of Jacksons Law for helping arrange the event. If you would like further information on either of these please contact Lauren.
This afternoon we are holding the Construction Industry Networking in the Tees Valley which has been kindly sponsored by Muckle LLP.
