An Invitation to THRIVE!

Jason and Alyssa arrived at church on Friday night, unsure of where to go on our large campus. All they knew was that they’d signed up for a THRIVE! class. They’d been married a while—enough years to remember some really good times and to experience some difficulties. So this THRIVE! marriage class was a kind of “tune up” for them. Why not? There was childcare and even dinner, so Friday night after work would be a little less hassle and maybe their marriage would benefit too.

They found the Commons, enjoyed dinner and the large group time, and joined their class, where they did the “work” of growing in their marriage. They believed their marriage was worth it, and we admired their willingness to show up at a church, which was a place where they had not spent much, if any, time.

There was another One who showed up during THRIVE!—the Holy Spirit. He had already been working in their hearts...

Love Europe—Victory in Czech Republic

It was an honor to serve Christ by teaching others about Him in the Czech Republic. The way I saw God work in so many of our lives gave me a deeper love and adoration for Him. I saw how God cares so deeply for what’s on our mind and that when we go to Him with a humble heart He will listen and shock me with how He responds.

Every night during camp we would have discussion groups with our English class about what we heard from the speaker or testimonies that were shared. One of the students in my group, Odet, opened up to us in the beginning of the week and shared that she wanted to believe that there is a God but was afraid. She said that her parents did not want anything to do with God and would get angry if He was even brought up in their house. Her dad even warned her before camp, knowing she would hear about God, to not let all of the “nonsense” go to her head, wanting only for her to go to this camp to advance her English.

However, I watched her intently listen to each of the stories about God and ask question after question, trying to figure out who God is. She truly wanted that relationship with Him...
