Essen Haus Oktoberfest
Saturday, September 24th
Noon-8pm
What has a TON of food, music, bier and fun? Essen Haus Oktoberfest, of course! This year, we're celebrating on Saturday, September 24th from noon-8pm. A portion of the Essen Haus parking lot will be transformed into a mini festival grounds packed with fun for the whole family. There will be live polka music with an outdoor dance floor, games/contests, some German Oktoberfest/Märzen biers off the caddy, goodies from the grill, a kids' zone and plenty of Gemütlichkeit!
The Gary Beal Band will kick things off with live polka on the patio from noon-4pm. Dorf Kapelle is next up from 4pm-8pm. This 20+ piece band is making their 5th consecutive appearance at our Oktoberfest festival with some energetic renditions of German polka classics. Engage in a friendly brat-eating or bier-drinking contest during the music break and make sure to pay a visit to the game area for some added fun. Adult ring toss, "guess how many pieces of candy are in the boot" and more carnival-style games will be in the mix. A kinder-friendly activity zone will be close by with plenty of crafts, coloring, bubbles and games to help entertain the little ones.
Brats, burgers, roast pig and plenty of other goodies from the grill will be available all evening. Fill up that plate and pay a visit to the outdoor bier caddy. After all, it wouldn't be Oktoberfest without the bier. Spaten, Hofbräu, Hacker-Pschorr and Paulaner Oktoberfests are this year's featured Märzen-style brews, with Spaten Lager and Spaten Optimator available for the non-Oktoberfest bier drinkers. After 8pm, the celebration moves inside with even more bier and polka. Sixteen German taps will be available to enjoy while The Zweifel Brothers take over the tunes for the night. Gather a group, drink a boot and dance the night away from 8:30pm-12:30am. Prost!

Come Back In's Buzzed Spelling Bee
Every Thursday at 7pm
Can you spell c-o-m-p-e-t-i-t-i-o-n? How about after a few beers? Find out every Thursday at the Come Back In. Registration bee-gins at 6pm each week for the 7pm bee. Contestants must bee 21+ to play and are required to "buy-in" with a $7 admission fee that includes a FREE first round bee(r). The game works like a traditional spelling bee, but with beer.
Once registered, contestants will receive their official Buzzed Spelling Bee number and will take their places on stage. Each player will be given a word to spell. If spelled correctly, he/she remains in the bee. If misspelled, the player is out of the bee and must leave the stage. Contestants may ask for the word's definition and/or to have it used in a sentence before spelling. Participants will have one minute to correctly spell their word for the first three rounds. This will decrease to 30 seconds for each subsequent round. If a contestant is mid-spell at the end of the designated time period, he/she will be allowed to finish. Restarting a word, even if it results in a correct spelling, is a disqualification. Sound easy? There's more.
Buzzed Spelling Bee participants must have a beer in hand for the duration of the game, hence the "Buzzed" portion of the bee. At least half of the buy-in beer must be consumed by the start of the bee at 7pm. Players must continue to drink at least half of a beer between turns (i.e. one beer for every two rounds). If the player survives past the sixth round, he/she may slow down to a 1/4 beer between turns. A designated driver or an alternative transportation plan is required before participating in the bee.
The LAST bee standing WINS. The Buzzed Spelling Bee champion will have his/her bee bar tab paid in full, along with bragging rights on the Come Back In's facebook page. Second and third place contestants will not go home empty handed. They will each receive an "I Don't Suck at Spelling" certificate redeemable for a free appetizer. Come Back In this Thursday to put those buzzed spelling skills to the test.

There will NOT be a Buzzed Spelling Bee on the following Thursdays:
