We're welcoming back Committed, who will perform this year's Homecoming Concert Friday, Oct. 21 in the auditorium of Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center. Committed is the R&B/Pop singing group who won Season 2 of the NBC hit musical competition “The Sing-Off." Prepare to be entertained! 
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m.
SWU’s 5th Annual Run2Fall 5K offers a challenging course for all ages. Walkers and runners are welcome to participate in this year’s glow themed event! We are excited to announce that this run will use chip timing for the first time ever, and our course will be marked by USATF standards. Exercise has never been this fun! Prizes will be awarded for Men's, Women's and Children's divisions! Mark your calendar for Oct. 21. Read more>>

Historic photo opportunity

Board of Visitors meets at SWU

SWU's Board of Visitors members met this past Thursday at Central. During the day, members received updates on campus projects from President Todd Voss and university leadership. They also took a bus tour around campus (through the courtesy of Clemson Area Transit) and a tour inside Nicholson-Mitchell Christian Ministry Center. The day was capped off with a visit to the newly updated Campus Store and Blue Hill Coffee.

Book Fair Starts Today!

 
Rickman Library is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair this week.  Stop by the library any time Monday – Thursday (9 a.m. – 9 p.m.) and Friday (9 – 11 a.m.) to browse and purchase titles for children and adults. All money earned from the book fair will go to support the Evatt Children’s Room in the Rickman Library. For details, click here.

Who is my neighbor?


SWU Criminal Justice majors spent this past Friday doing yard work for an elderly woman who lives near the Central campus. Recovering from open heart surgery and unable to work in her yard, she said she was grateful to the students. The cleanup was organized by Prof. James McDonald.

Fine Arts: Chamber Ensemble Concert - Sept. 27


A new event this year at SWU, the Chamber Ensemble Concert will feature top SWU soloists and small ensembles for a program early in the semester. The program may also include guest professional performers from the area sharing the stage. The program is free and will be in the Alive Chapel in the Nicholson Mitchell Christian Ministry Center. This event, which starts at 7:30 p.m., is part of SWU’s annual Fine Arts Series. Admission is free. For more details, call (864) 644-5408.

Congratulations!

Wade Metcalf (’15) has been promoted to billing lead by Tech-24, where he will be over a team of employees in his department. According to Metcalf, Tech-24 is transitioning through a time of rapid growth. He says his SWU degree “has been the key to opening many doors,” giving him a strong career foundation.

Josh (’11) and Adrienne Shepard (’09) welcomed Harper Renee Shepard Aug. 14 at 9:34 a.m., weighing 6 lbs. and 11 oz. Adrienne reports “We are all doing fine and big brother Hudson is absolutely loving her!” Adrienne is a data assistant in SWU’s Admissions Office.

Run for the Badge


Run for the Badge is a nationwide event sponsored by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF). The run’s purpose is to raise money and awareness for the fund that honors and remembers the heroes of American law enforcement. Dr. Bruce Gay, professor of criminal justice, has created a team for students and other participants. SWU will host a local Run for the Badge Oct. 10, 3 p.m. at Joe R. Gilbert Track and Soccer Complex. The event is a 5k that can be run or walked. Download this flyer for details and registration.

'Unite the Community' Softball Invitational this Saturday


Teams from Pickens and Anderson county Disabilities and Special Needs communities, area law enforcement and area fire departments will join SWU for a day of softball and a celebration of the special abilities of this special population. This event will take place Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. and running until 3 p.m. at Varsity Field on the Central campus.For details, contact Heather Matthews, PCBDSN activities coordinator at (864) 644-2507 or email hmatthews@pcbdsn.org.
