Upcoming Fall Classes • Welcome New Faculty!

This October we are thrilled to welcome talented new faculty members to our schoolhouse. William Krier will be teaching our first ever Wicker Basketry class. We are excited to announce that local artist and celebrated instructor Bob Collins will be teaching our Beginning Drawing class. A brand new Relief Printmaking class is about to begin with Vinicius de Aguiar Sanchez. In the sewing room, we welcome David Bermingham and his class Draping Non-Traditional Forms. In January David will be back with our new Garments for Gender Performance class. Do you have a new class that you would like to propose for Spring/ Summer 2017? Course proposals are due October 1st. Spread the word!

Our Weekend at JP Open Studios

This past weekend we celebrated the 23rd annual Jamaica Plain Open Studios weekend. 20 of our faculty members set up inside our schoolhouse and on our lawn to share their woodworking, fiber arts, handmade soap, photography, drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media pieces and more. On Saturday, Charleston Seargent had us dancing through the afternoon. Our Artists in Residence set up their Lemonade Stand for their final day of printmaking and turning lemons into lemonade! On Sunday Wee the People led our youngest visitors in making their very own identity crowns. All weekend our demo tent was alive with demonstrations in wild journals, basketweaving, wood turning, children's activities and more. We are already counting down the days until we can do it all again in September 2017! Take a look at some snapshots from the weekend here.

Faculty Exhibit: Beverly Arsem at Uforge Gallery • 10/6 + 10/27

October 6-30 view Beverly’s newest body of work, Thread Topologies, where she explores hand-stitching and machine sewing and experiments with various fibers including dyed and printed fabrics, wire, cables, and  rope. With years of work in construction and architectural design informing her practice, Beverly continues to exercise the yearn to work with fibers. Reception Oct 6, 6-9pm • Artist Talk: Oct 27, 7pmAdditionally, sign up for Beverly's Contemporary Art Quilts class here

It saddens us to report that our neighbors at Uforge Gallery will be closing their doors at the end of October. We have been showing work made by our faculty at the gallery for 3-1/2 years, and have cherished the lasting partnership. We wish the UForge team success with carrying on their programs without doors, we will continue to seek a new gallery partner to host our faculty work. Please contact us with any inquiries or suggestions.

Named Scholarships Send Kids to Camp

Thanks to those who donated to our named scholarships in the past year, helping 54 children enjoy a total of 164 classes on full scholarship. Generous donations will cover 6 children in next summer’s program for children, and every year after that. We are proud to honor through our named scholarship funds: Sonia Schubert Calabi, Lorenzo Calabi, Tim Ingles, and Nicole Murray These funds alone cover 6 children in next summer's program for children, and every year after that. “My favorite part of coming to the Eliot School is meeting new people, trying new things and doing what I’m best at. My favorite project was my comic.” – Alaya P., student
