Sector star awards. Our sector star awards recognise the contributions made by local voluntary and community organisations, volunteers, businesses and public sector organisations. They're our way of celebrating and saying thanks for the huge difference you make to our local areas. You can nominate yourself, or another person, group or organisation who you think deserves to be recognised, under one of our 12 awards categories. Deadline for nominations is 14 October 2016...more

Celebrating faith in the community.
Bookings have now opened for our second celebrating faith in our community event. It's being held as part of inter-faith week on 15 November 2016. It's an opportunity to meet with and hear from faith groups across the city about their work...more
VOLUNTARY ACTION
We're helping people to work. We're leading a partnership of local charities to provide internship placements, local learning opportunities and employment focused information and advice to adults across Sussex who're looking for employment...more 

Local charities receive support. Five local charities have recieved a grant to help them develop their organisations. The grant will help them to provide more sustainable services to local residents. We're helping them to make the changes that they need to, and to share what they learn with other local charities...more

Taking account. 
We've conducted our own research into the local voluntary and community sector to find out how big it is and just how much it contributes to making our society and local areas better. Did you know there are over 2,300 local charities and groups which have over 27,600 volunteers and over 6,900 employees? Together they contribute about £127 million to our local economy, every year...more 

If you'd like to volunteer with one of these amazing local charities or causes, we can help you to. We advertise over 200 local volunteering opportunities at any one time. We can help you with your search, and give you free, confidential advice to help you find a volunteer role that's right for you...more

After the referendum.
The referendum on 23 June has sparked a new period of economic uncertainty, and triggered a rise in racially-motivated hate crime. We've joined others in standing up and saying no to hate and in welcoming all visitors, workers and residents in the UK...more 

A number of national charities have written about the potential impact on charities and the voluntary and community sector of the UK leaving the EU...more We shall continue to monitor the situation and help local charities effected by the changes.

In the mean time, we've organised a conference for local charities and groups to come together to explore what we can all do to ensure greater community cohesion and wellbeing...more

Taking action on data burden. We're supporting 68 local voluntary and community organisations who want commissioners and funders to recognise and take action to reduce the burden of data collection....more

Measuring social value. We've worked with other local organisations to develop new guidance on social value and how it should be measured by those commissioning local services and those providing local services...more
