Spotlight: Soldier Hollow Charter School

Our Mission
Our mission is to create a school that utilizes place based education to foster autonomous life-long learning through knowledge of and responsibility for the environment.

Who We Are
Soldier Hollow Charter School is located in Midway, Utah on the Olympic venue used for nordic skiing.

Our Vision
Our purpose is to provide an innovative educational model that nurtures inquiry, creativity and inspires the desire to learn. The natural world will be used as a classroom for place-based learning across the curriculum.

BioBlitz information:
Each year our school has an Environmental Education "Week" during the week of UEA. (3 days)  This year the theme will be Biodiversity and we are planning on conducting a Bio Blitz around our campus since our school is located within Wasatch State Park on an Olympic venue.  We will be identifying species and analyzing what we find.   We will post results of our BioBlitz on our website and share the data with the state park and Soldier Hollow Legacy Foundation.
We will introduce the BioBlitz and prepare the students through mini-lessons on Biodiversity and specific species on Monday, Oct. 17th.  The actual Blitz will be on October 18-- students will rotate through different zones around our campus identifying species.  On Wednesday, Oct. 19th, the data will be presented and analyzed, and we will conclude the week with stewardship projects around our campus and community to help promote and preserve the biodiversity surrounding us.
