Rally Day – or Gathering Day as some of us have begun to think of this celebration of the beginning of the new September through May season of our PPUMC life – was September 11. And it was certainly a celebration!
The aroma of luscious calzones baking in the new oven greeted every arrival! Thanks to Liz Richards and Liz Pierce for the baking and to Jan Ekern, Dave Robinson, Barb Pelak and others who researched and purchased the oven that will serve us as we serve others for many years to come!
Worship was especially celebrational: first time attenders and long time lovers of PPUMC participated together, walking right into the parables that tell of finding - a lost coin, a lost sheep and a lost son. We experienced a taste of the hard work of “finding” and were reminded that each of us are not only “finders” but in ourselves, precious and “findable.” Praise be to God.
Children’s Time was storytime, we gathered around a little book called “I Wish You More,” a list of blessings and abundant life. The choir debuted their season with a rousing anthem, “Great is the Lord,” we sang and prayed and came to the Communion Table together.
And then we feasted on those delicious calzones!
In this new season there are many ways to get together with others and contribute to our shared life here at the church. There will be opportunities to be part of planning Advent and Christmas Eve worship and activities, participating in worship, to be part of a Care Team (just forming), to work in various areas of our outreach and “inreach.” A multigenerational puppet-making project will offer opportunities for EVERYONE to in one way or another participate in what will become a Christmas pageant. More on these opportunities will be coming your way soon!
We have begun! Hallelujah!! Wild blessings are just around the corner.

Submit to Prospectus 2.0
With the new season beginning, there is a lot to do in the life of the church (and outside of it!) This month Prospectus 2.0 is coming into its 7th issue, and we would like to invite anyone to know that they can submit content for this digital newsletter. Whether it be an announcement, art or poetry that you created, or a story you would like to share, we welcome submissions and ideas of all kinds. This newsletter is another flexible platform for us to share with one another and we would like everyone to feel welcome to use such a platform.

Community Concert Series Begins!
|
|
The 2016-17 PPUMC Community Concert Series kicked off in down-home style this past Saturday evening as First Saturday Folk presented, “Folk-A-Nanny!” Now in its 7th year, the goal of the concert series is the same as when it began: inviting one and all to enjoy local musicians perform and entertain in the beautiful Prospect Park UMC sanctuary while helping to raise vital support for area social service agencies and organizations. Saturday’s concert didn’t disappoint as the audience sang along on folk and gospel favorites like, “Turn Your Radio On”, and “If I Had a Hammer”. The concert beneficiary was Family Wise, a social service agency located here in the Prospect Park neighborhood that helps support and empower families in times of need.
Next month we welcome the Roseville Big Band on Saturday evening, October 8, in support of Southeast Seniors. Bring your dancing shoes for an evening of big band and swing favorites!

The people of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation are leading a growing protest against the building of the Dakota Access Pipeline designed to carry a half-million barrels of oil daily from the Bakken oil fields in northwest North Dakota to Patoka, Illinois.
...
I stand with my Lakota and Dakota brothers and sisters because I believe the central question of the creation story is at the heart of their lament and their protest: What will we do with the blessing of power God has given us? This is a particularly poignant God-question for those of us who have the power of privilege in our country and the world. I urge all Dakotas and Minnesota United Methodists to wrestle with this question so central to our faith and witness.
