Symphony Number One To Open Second Season Sept. 23
Performances feature music of Strauss, Mozart, and a World Premiere from Martha C. Horst, Sept. 23, 25
BALTIMORE, MD — After an inaugural season that earned Symphony Number One the "Category Buster" award by Baltimore Magazine for their Best of Baltimore 2016, the professional orchestra will open its second season with two performances of Wealth of Winds on Sept. 23 and 25.
Symphony Number One's wind section will perform Strauss's Symphony for Winds ("The Happy Workshop"), Mozart's Gran Partita, and the World Premiere of Martha C. Horst's Straussian Landscapes. The group of 16 will be peppered with a new mix musicians from the Peabody Conservatory and professionals from the across the state of Maryland.
"Folks coming to this first concert can expect a variety of impressively constructed wind masterpieces from the 18th century until now," Music Director Jordan Randall Smith said. "I'm excited to kick off Symphony Number One's second season with timeless masterworks that will showcase the energy of Strauss, the familiar of Mozart, and the stunning efforts of Horst."
Wealth of Winds will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at Lovely Lane Methodist Church at 2200 St. Paul St. in Baltimore. Tickets are $15 general Admission, $10 seniors, veterans, public servants, $5 children, students.
