Young Candidates Organize to Oust Incumbents in 2012
‘Year of Youth’ Launches to Identify, Train and Mobilize Liberty Activists

ARLINGTON, VA—Inspired by Ron Paul’s 2008 presidential bid, Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) has launched Year of Youth, a new initiative to identify the top 100 candidates and campaign staffers in the country who will faithfully carry the liberty message to victory in the 2012 elections.  In addition, the project will train more than 1,000 YAL members and activists in effective political technology over the course of the next two years.

The last election cycle saw a growing number of young people running successful campaigns on the principles of freedom, peace, and sound economics.  For instance, at 19 years old Romaine Quinn was elected mayor of Rice Lake, WI, a town of 8000.  He beat the incumbent with 53% of the vote, and his story captured headlines nationwide.

“Young people have the passion, energy, and dedication to carry on the freedom message. Real change will come from the next generation,” said Congressman Ron Paul, the Texas Republican whose 2008 presidential campaign was the impetus for YAL’s founding.

YAL Executive Director Jeff Frazee agreed:  “Year of Youth (YoY) is the next logical step in YAL’s mission to educate and mobilize students on the ideals of liberty and the Constitution.  Our goal is to cast the leaders of tomorrow and reclaim the direction of our government.”

“Successes like Romaine’s are exciting to anyone who sees a problem with our country’s current direction; there aren’t many young people in office right now, but we need fresh perspective from a new generation of public servants,” added Jared Fuller, who developed YoY as an undergraduate at Wake Forest. “Year of Youth represents a new surge of young people getting involved to make a real change in all levels of government.”

The Year of Youth project launched on Monday, January 20, 2011 at www.yearofyouth.org.

Young Americans for Liberty is a national network of more than 170 chapters which grew out of the 2008 presidential election’s Students for Ron Paul. YAL seeks to recruit, train, educate, and mobilize students on the ideals of individual liberty and the U.S. Constitution.
