Council of Outdoor Educators of Ontario Annual Conference

Folk School ‘16 is all about taking a step back from electronics and moving towards a hands-on approach to learning. How can educators incorporate traditional knowledge and skills into their practice if they have not been taught the skills to do so? How can we move towards sustainability, resilience, peace and reconciliation if there is no space for traditional knowledge in our practice? Folk School ‘16 aims to provide space for members to start learning (or re-learning) these traditional skills and crafts.

WILD Connect

Developed as a partnership between the Canadian Wildlife Federation and the Outdoor Council of Canada (OCC), the WILD Connect leadership course is a one evening + two day intense learning experience. Attendees will become certified in WILD Education and in Field Leader (Hiking) while participating in orientation, curriculum-based activities (indoors and outdoors) and discussions regarding the practice and outcomes of experiential outdoor education.

Canadian Wildlife Federation
Wild Grants

This is an ongoing grant program designed to help Canadians connect with and support nature in a variety of ways. This can include creating or improving wildlife habitat (gardens, shoreline cleanups, etc.) and learning about wildlife and wild places (BioBlitzes, soil or pond studies, etc.). Annually, this program provides grants of $250 to numerous projects across Canada, an excellent boost for projects that can use a helping hand.

Go Wild Community Grants

Do you have an idea that will help nature thrive in your community? Go Wild Community Grants – which are presented by TELUS and range from $1,000 to $7,000 – support creative ideas from Canadians on how to protect, restore, monitor, educate and celebrate nature.

The Prime Minister's Youth Council

Applications now open!

The Council will advise the Prime Minister on national issues such as employment, access to education, building stronger communities, climate change and clean growth. The Council will meet multiple times a year. If you are aged 16 to 24, now is your chance to apply to become one of the Youth Council members.

Environment & Sustainability Education

In Pre-Service Teacher Education

This is a project dedicated to strengthening Environmental and Sustainability Education (ESE) in pre-service teacher education in Canada. In this, it is working towards three key outcomes: the establishment of a network of faculty and educators to support this goal; the instigation of new research; and the creation of a digital communications hub to support knowledge mobilization in this field. These outcomes bring a variety of intellectual, cultural and societal benefits, aiming to engage those involved in pre-service education to better support a cultural shift of Canadians towards more sustainable forms of living.
