BCTC, in partnership with the BC Arts Council, Columbia Basin Trust and Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance is hosting The Impact of the Arts: Enhancing Creative and Economic Vitality in Rural Communities for performing arts presenters in South Central and South East regions of BC.

Under a reciprocal arrangement with Arts Northwest, BCTC presenter members have an opportunity to attend the conference in Spokane from October 10-13 at no cost (does not include meals). If you are interested in attending, please contact Joanna at fyi@bctouring.org

BCTC’s 41st annual showcase and booking conference for performing arts touring and presenting takes place at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown from March 30 to April 2, 2017.

Pacific Contact 2017 Showcase Applicants
Thank you to everyone who applied to showcase at Pacific Contact 2017. All applicants were notified on September 8. If you did not receive notice, please contact us at admin@bctouring.org. Showcase artists will be announced in October.


Aspiring & Emerging Artists Program 
BCTC in partnership with the BC Arts Council is pleased to offer the following programs as part of the Aspiring & Emerging Artists Initiative (AEA).

On the Road Touring & Training Workshop- Save the Dates!
BCTC will host two x two-day workshops in Nanaimo on November 12 & 13, and in Prince George on February 2-3 prior to the Coldsnap Festival. More information and registration will be added to the website in the coming weeks.

Warming up the Act funding program: Re-launch soon
Warming Up the Act (WUTA) provides funding to BC presenters to engage aspiring and emerging BC artists as openers for main stage artists/acts presented as part of a series or season. The program will be launched again later this month. 

 
Youth Friendly Venue Inventory
As part of the Aspiring and Emerging Artists Initiative, BCTC has created an inventory of youth friendly venues in BC. Venues include restaurants/cafes, arts centres, pubs/clubs, gallery spaces, community halls, studios and other performing arts spaces. The inventory also features selected profiles with video, descriptions, past performers and other information.

Arts Whistler Appoints Maureen Douglas as Executive Director 
Long-time Sea to Sky events, culture, and communications professional Maureen Douglas has been appointed as Arts Whistler's executive director, replacing former ED Doti Niedermayer, who departed earlier this year. Congrats, Maureen! 


Industry News

Attention BC Societies! Preparing for the New Societies Act 
The new Societies Act will come into effect on November 28. In the two years following, every pre-existing society will be required to “transition” to the new Act. Societies may now order a transition package for $40. The package will include a certified copy of the society’s bylaws and constitution as filed with the Corporate Registry. Apply to Showcase at ArtStarts in Schools: Deadline October 7
ArtStarts in Schools invites performing artists from all disciplines to apply to showcase at the annual ArtStarts Showcase and Conference happening March 6 & 7, 2017.


BC Music Fund launches the Sound Recording Pilot Program: Deadline ongoing
This is the first program to launch the new $15 million BC Music Fund, supported by the Province of BC and administered by Creative BC. Learn how to apply.


Call for Applications: CHRC Talent to Lead: Deadline September 15
Talent to Lead (T2L) is designed for mid-­career cultural managers seeking to take their careers to the next level of leadership. It creates opportunities to learn from one another and build relationships with other leaders, while also getting expert support from top-notch executives in the field.


CAPACOA’s Mentorship Program, Deadline September 23
CAPACOA is now accepting applications for The Succession Plan (TSP), which will be delivered during the CAPACOA@CINARS conference in Montreal, taking place from November 13 - 20, 2016. TSP is a mentorship and peer network development program delivered by CAPACOA, for emerging and mid-career presenters and other performing arts professionals.


Culture Days: Last call to register your event by September 19
Did you know the registration of new activities for the 2016 edition of Culture Days taking place on September 30, October 1 & 2 will close at midnight (ET) on September 19?

 
Funding available for B.C. artists forging global ties
BC artists and arts organizations pursuing international promotion or networking opportunities are invited to submit proposals for International Presence funding. The Province will invest $250,000 in projects that raise the global profile of B.C.’s artists, as part of the Creative Economy Strategy. Proposals will be accepted on a continuous intake until the budget is either fully committed, or until Nov. 30. For details and to apply, visit their website

Made in BC and the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation present Leading from Beside, a celebration of current, community-engaged dance, including an exhibition, panel discussions, movement workshops, and dialogue circles. For information or to register, visit their website.
 
Music BC Travel Grants: Deadline September 30 
Music BC Travel Grants provide assistance to BC based artists to participate in touring and showcasing initiatives domestically and internationally, and BC based companies and individuals undertaking business travel activities in support of the BC music community. SpaceFinder BC is a free-to-list, free-to-search online database that enables artists and arts organizations to search for creative spaces that meet their needs in terms of location, amenities, availability, pricing, and more. The Future Lives Here: Bridging Cultures and Building Communities, October 17-19, Surrey
The 2016 Creative City Summit will be held at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel in Surrey from October 17-19. This year's Summit will highlight the different stages of cultural development in communities across Canada.
