Ticket price: £5 to include a glass of wine or juice.

or on the door, IF there are still some left!

Wellow Composting Club

Dear Composters,

I recently asked that only weeds and grass cuttings be delivered to the site. This week I found stones and old plastic pots in the reception area, these have to be disposed of separately. PLEASE, deliver only weeds and grass cuttings, and pile them separately where labelled in green, and not in the leaves section, please!

Thanks

My daughter Ellie Gold (9) has decided to organise her own Sponsored Walk to raise money for the new Cancer Care Unit at the RUH. This is the first event she has organised and taken part in so it would be lovely if she had lots of support. On 18th September we are walking 7 miles from the RUH foyer, along the 2 tunnels cycleway, and planning to arrive in Wellow mid afternoon. We will be picnicking en route, and arriving at the Fox & Badger at around 2pm for well earned refreshments if anyone would like to join us. If you would like to walk with us please drop me a line (tara@ethicalkidz.co.uk). The pace of the walk will be quite slow and ages currently range from 9 to 73.

Any donations would be very gratefully received. This is the link to Ellie's Just Giving sponsor form

Thank you

Edward Walker was brought up at Church House in Wellow and he has sent me details of his upcoming production at The Merlin Theatre in Frome.  As you can see it has been a great success and now we have a chance to see it.  He says it is for 6 - 80 year olds!  It would be lovely to support him.  Edward said that if his mother Alison was still alive she would have been going and taking the whole of Bath with her!  So I am trying to do my bit!

After 7 years of touring Europe with our Shakespeare for ALL the Family shows - including two consecutive sold out runs at  Brighton Fringe, as well as The International Children's Theatre Festival - we are coming to Somerset for the first time…..whoopwhoop!

HARVEST FESTIVAL
St. Julian's, Wellow

Our Harvest Festival service is at 11.15 am on Sunday 25th September.

This year, instead of produce, which is always difficult to distribute, we will be having a collection for refugee children through UNICEF. Please come and support us.

The church will, of course,be decorated with flowers and fruit as usual.

The Packhorse - Good News

Dear Packhorse supporter

We're delighted to report that our share issue has been a huge success! At 7pm yesterday, after a late flood of money, over 200 investors had contributed a total of £601,000 - and there are more share applications in the pipeline. We now have the capital both to buy the Packhorse for the community and to begin to develop detailed plans for the refurbishment!

We are thrilled, relieved and hugely grateful for the generosity of supporters of the Packhorse. Thank you so much! And to the two hundred or so people who assembled in the pub garden yesterday evening to hear the news - we hope you enjoyed the occasion as much as we did.

We're not quite there yet - we still have to raise around £265,000 for refurbishment and working capital. But the money invested so far will not only buy the pub but also buy us time to raise money for building work in early 2017 with a view to reopening early Summer next year.

We are leaving the share issue open for the time being, so there is still time for others to join this special project - just look for the prospectus and share application form on our web site.

Meanwhile, we now have time to be more creative in our fundraising. We'll have details in due course but we expect this to involve grant applications (we have our eye on the Heritage Lottery Fund), accepting smaller donations and, among other things, events.

One such event will be an illustrated talk on "A History of Bath Pubs" by Dr Andrew Swift on Wednesday 21st September in South Stoke Village Hall. Andrew is a historian, an author of several books about local pubs, and an entertaining speaker. Entrance is free but arms may be twisted for a donation to the Packhorse fund! Refreshments will be available and all are welcome.

We'll share more news soon!

With thanks,

Wellow to become part of Bath parliamentary constituency?

The Boundary Commission's initial proposals for the review of constituency boundaries puts Wellow into the Bath constituency.

Here is the wording from the Boundary Commission.

Initial proposals for the Somerset, and Bath and North East Somerset sub‐region

66 There are currently seven constituencies in the sub‐region comprising the County of Somerset and the unitary authority of Bath and North East Somerset, four of which have an electorate within 5% of the electoral quota. Two of the existing constituencies (i.e. those of Bath, and North East Somerset) have electorates that fall below the lower 5% limit, and one of the existing constituencies (Bridgwater and West Somerset) has an electorate that is above the upper 5% limit. We do not propose to alter the allocation of seven constituencies for this sub‐region.

67 It is possible to create five constituencies wholly within the County of Somerset, each with an electorate within 5% of the electoral quota, with minimal change to the existing constituencies. However, that would leave Bath and North East Somerset, which is too small to continue to form two constituencies.

68 We propose to extend the existing Bath constituency by including the three Bath and North East Somerset district wards of Bathavon North, Bathavon South, and Peasedown. We propose extending the existing North East Somerset constituency by including six Mendip district wards, including the town of Shepton Mallet. Four of these wards are in the existing Wells constituency, and two are in the existing Somerton and Frome constituency.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

I am having a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Thursday 22nd September, 9 - 12.

Emma Rose : Somerset Open Studios.

'Somerset Open Studios' is opening its doors all over this stunning county.  Why not plan a trip and visit lots of artisans in their lairs.  From 17th Sept-2nd Oct, nearly 300 artists at 208 venues are taking part.

"I urge you to go out and enjoy these glorious weeks of cultural exploration" Kevin McCloud

My work is at Venue 125 - upstairs at 78 Walcot Street, Bath BA1 5BD (open Mon-Sat 10-5).

Come and enjoy looking at my original artwork - paintings, limited edition giclée prints, canvas prints and cards in the heart of the Heritage City of Bath.  I'm also very happy to take commissions.

Walcot Street is the artisan quarter of Bath, with over 90 independent traders it is an absolute delight and represents the essence of alternative life. I'm nestled by the stylish Fig interiors, the Framing Workshop and delicous Sam's Kitchen. Then there is a weaver, vintage clothing, hairstylist, bike shop and restaurants all around and tons more....
