Dear Parents,

We had a great evening on Saturday for our Confirmation. The students were all very well prepared and participated very reverently in the Mass. Thank you to Bishop Hanna, Father Joel, Jane Fawcett, Brenda Seckold, Phil Shanahan and the Year 6 parents for their hard work in preparing the students and organising the Mass. It was a great celebration.

This Friday at 9.30am in the Mercy Hall our Year 4 classes are hosting the school assembly. All parents and family members are welcome to join us for this. All guests are invited for a cup of tea and a bite to eat after the assembly.

Next Thursday, 22nd September we will be having our “End of Term” Mass at 10.30am in St. Patrick’s Church.  All parents are welcome to join us for this.

Thank you to Marg Moore for organising the Book Fair over the past couple of weeks. It was great to see the children purchasing books to read. Thank you to the parents who supported this.

CONFIRMATION
Congratulations to our Year 6 children who received the sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday evening. It was inspiring to witness these young people confidently and proudly profess their Faith in the presence of Bishop Hanna and our Parish community. The support of families and sponsors was very much evident – gathering to celebrate the children’s commitment to living a Christian life is indeed a joyous occasion. Our Year 6 teachers, Brenda Seckold and Phil Shanahan spent many weeks preparing the children for Confirmation and we thank them for their commitment to teaching our faith and for supporting and guiding the children to this new stage in their lives; to a new beginning of being more fully a part of the body of Christ, the Christian community. Bishop Hanna sends these young people out to spread the Good News just as Jesus sent forth his apostles to continue his mission on earth.

Bishop Hanna’s Visit
About What I Learned…
I’ve learned every spare minute you have you can say a prayer. What courage can do to help you in many ways of the Lord. I also learned he was 61 when he became Bishop.
The Gifts….
All the gifts are strengthened in Confirmation. I am now able to understand the gifts and what they really mean, and learning more about it.
The Symbols…..
He talked about symbols of Baptism, Reconciliation, (Holy Communion) Eucharist. I found out that the flame of the candle reminds us of the Light of Jesus.
What else did I learn?
The Baptism candles flame is a symbol of Faith. The flame will never flicker in your heart or faith. When he talked about Jesus he taught us his last words which are “When I leave I will always be with you till the end of time”.

Thank You
Thank you for making the time to come to our school to explain what we will need to do in our life to make us have a happy and faithful life. You are an amazing man and I am sure you have lots of people who would love to have such a kind personality and a faithful life.
I hope you had a good time at St. Pat’s today. It was great to have you come and teach us. Come again and teach us because it is amazing to have the Bishop be in our classroom to teach us.           Thank you

BISHOP HANNA'S RETIREMENT
The Holy Father Pope Francis announced on Monday evening that he had accepted an application for the early retirement of Bishop Gerard Hanna as the fifth Catholic Bishop of Wagga Wagga due to health reasons.
Archbishop Christopher Prowse, Archbishop of Canberra-Goulburn, has been appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Wagga Wagga during the time of transition to a new Bishop.
Archbishop Prowse wrote in a statement today "We pray for the health of Bishop Hanna. We also thank him most sincerely for the many years of service as the Bishop of Wagga Wagga and the various national episcopal commissions he has contributed to so prudently over the years."
"Let us all pray together that the Holy Spirit will raise up a worthy Bishop of Wagga Wagga to succeed Bishop Hanna" Archbishop Prowse said.
Speaking about his retirement, Bishop Hanna said, ‘It has been a special time ministering to the people of the Diocese of Wagga Wagga. Due to continuous ill health, it is no longer possible for me to continue my ministry across the diocese. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the families, parishes and communities across the diocese for their support, engagement and welcome throughout my time as Bishop of Wagga’.
Bishop Hanna is due to leave the diocese at the end of September.
Please join us in wishing Bishop Hanna all the best for his retirement and keep him in your prayers.
