Beaumont Blast 9/18/16

PEACE DAY FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23
On the International Day of Peace, also known as Peace Day, people around the world take part in various activities and organize events centered on the theme “peace.” Beaumont students will be engaged in cross grade activities, which will promote the idea of peace on a personal and world wide scale.  Beaumont students are encouraged to wear a white shirt - the color that represents peace - to school that day.

We will be having Peace Picnics outside during lunch. Please send your child to school with a beach towel to sit on during that time.  There will be two lunch options in the cafeteria on Peace Day, pizza or PBJ.  Children will purchase their lunch before going outside for the picnic.  Of course you are always welcome to bring a lunch from home!
CURRICULUM NIGHT
The third and final back to school night will take place on Thursday, September 22, at 6:30pm for grades 3 - 4.

BEAUMONT BEAR CAMPAIGN
From HSA Co-Presidents Courtney O'Brien & Ann McCarthy
In our welcome back letter included in the Back To School paperwork, we mentioned the Beaumont Bear Campaign. The form for direct donations may have been left out of some backpacks! We apologize for the inconvenience and wanted to include it in the next few blasts for everyone to access. Here is some background on the Proud to be a Beaumont Bear Campaign.
Thank you!

In 2012, we implemented a Proud to Be Beaumont Bears direct donation campaign and reduced the number of small fundraisers.  Please consider making our Beaumont HSA a recipient of your charitable contribution.  Since our HSA is a non-profit entity, your donation is 100% tax deductible.
At the top of the school’s wish list this year is to purchase more iPads, playground improvements, robotics, and library furniture, all needed for the school.  These items are to enhance our children’s experience at Beaumont.
Thank you for considering a Proud to Be Beaumont Bears contribution.  We are grateful for your support.  To participate in our Proud To Be Beaumont Bears, please use the attached form (also found at www.beaumonthsa.org).

READING CONNECTIONS
Beaumont subscribes to Reading Connection which is a monthly newsletter from Resources for Educators. Reading Connection delivers tips and activities for parents to support children’s reading, writing, and language development, which are aligned to the Common Core State Standards.  Please check out September's newsletters for Beginning Readers and Intermediate Readers.

VOLUNTEER CLEARANCES
A note from Principal Dr. Stephanie Demming
Dear Beaumont Families,
Beaumont truly values its volunteers, and they support a variety of school programs and events. The District has revised the policies and regulations related to volunteer clearances in relation to current state law. Here is the District's regulation #1300 "Volunteers". In this regulation, you will find many details about the parameters for which types of volunteers need to have clearances on file and which do not.

In summary:
• At the elementary level, all field trip chaperones/volunteers will need to have their clearances on file.
• Generally, classroom party or classroom volunteers do NOT need to have clearances.
• No clearances are required for volunteers at HSA/PTO events or programs.

Again, please see the attachment and the link to the T/E Human Resources Department for more information and how to send in your clearances.

TERRACYCLING
We will be continuing our Terracycling collection this year.  For those of you who are new to Beaumont or to Terracycling, Terracycle is a company that collects waste that would otherwise end up in landfills, and instead recycles or "upcycles" it into new products like lunch bags, backpacks, and scrapbooks (for more information, go to www.terracycle.com). The collection bins are located by the greeter's desk and in the cafeteria.
Items we are collecting include:
1. Oral care waste: toothbrushes, empty toothpaste tubes, toothpaste/toothbrush packaging, and empty floss boxes
2. Juice pouches (please make sure they are empty).
3. Crayola brand markers
Thanks for helping Beaumont and our planet! For questions, contact Valerie Cheng.

•  Cub Scouts - On Wednesday, September 28th at 7:00pm Cub Scout Pack 113 will hold a Join Scouting Night at Beaumont Elementary in the cafeteria.  If you have boys in grades 1 through 5, come out to learn more about our Pack and meet parent leaders.  You will be able to register your child at this event.
About Cub Scout Pack 113:
Sponsored by Berwyn United Methodist Church, most Den meetings and Pack events are held there (field trips & camping are off-site).  Most of our Cubs attend Beaumont Elementary or T/E Middle School.  Our Pack is open, welcoming, and adventurous.  We focus on building relationships and skills while having fun and giving back to our community.  We go camping, do community service projects, race hand-made wooden cars in the Pinewood Derby, go hiking, launch rockets, learn skills and earn badges, make friends, and visit historic and cultural sites.
