Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston last visited Dorchester in 2013 and in the intervening years their reputation as one of the most sought after duos on the English folk & roots scene has grown and grown. The striking combination of the flame headed double bass player & virtuoso mandolin player create music that Folk Roots say is: “A musical partnership made in heaven. Scintillating, Sensitive and Brilliant!”

Well known for the last 10 years as a central component of Show of Hands, Miranda has an exquisite and spine-tingling voice, whilst Rex, with his exuberant and flamboyant playing style, has built a reputation as one of the finest mandolin players in the UK.

Their live shows are always delightful, warm and wonderful. Click here to hear them playing Old Man Time...

Southern Tenant Folk Union were also last here in 2013 for a packed gig at the Arts Centre. This all acoustic band with banjo, fiddle, double bass, acoustic guitar, percussion & harmony vocal perform an eclectic mix of high energy atmospheric folk and have received airplay from Bob Harris & Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 2 and made live appearances on BBC One TV (The Andrew Marr Show), RTE TV (The Late Late Show) & Radio 4’s Loose Ends twice. Praise in The Sunday Times, Guardian, Irish Times and Independent has seen the band light up the folk music scene. Their hugely original live act is worked around a single microphone and they have performed at Celtic Connections, Orkney Folk Festival, Belladrum & The Electric Picnic and now sell out venues across Europe.

Click here to their fabulous track To The War. (Any Lindisfarne fans out there? A worthy successor to Alan Hull on vocals we think!)
