Hi Moms and Dads

This newsletter is a very important form of communication. If you do not receive one via email, please let Jane have your email so that we can send you one and if you would prefer a hard copy in your child’s pocket, please let Jane know so that we can do this for you!
Wishing all our Muslim families Eid Mubarak!!
16th September is Bandana Day- We encourage all families to buy ‘Sunflower Bandanas’ at Pick ‘n Pay for R25, to support this worthwhile cause. Your child can wear a sunflower bandana to school on Friday 16th Sept.
We will be having an OPEN DAY this Saturday 17th Sept, 9.00am-11am for new and prospective parents. Please spread the word with friends and family who are looking for a space for their child for next year 2017.
The staff went on a First Aid Course this Saturday to re-new their certificates. It was fabulous and we learnt some new information, particularly new laws surrounding medication.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE NOT LEGALLY ALLOWED TO DISPENSE ANY MEDICATION, which means that we cannot have any medication such as Panado, Ponstel etc at school.
  • Each parent will need to bring in some medication that their child has at home for pain and fever. This medication will be labelled and kept with the teacher in case the child needs it. If we do not have any medication for your child at school and they get a temperature then we will have to request that you fetch your child or come to school to give us some medicine for them.
  • We will also be adding to our medication file. If you need us to give your child medicine during the school day, you will as at present need to sign consent but also provide us with your Dr’s name and a few details on when you last gave medication etc. This will all be on the new form in the file.

CLASS REPS

Please ask the parents in your class if they can help on Grandparents day.
1)We need parents to help serve tea (2 parents per tea table would be great. There will be 3 tea tables. I have one parent who has offered to help so far!) and to set up the tea tables.
2)We are looking for hot pots! If you have one that we could borrow for the morning, please bring it in to the office!
3)Also please ask one parent per class to provide a treat for the children to enjoy while their grandparents are at tea.
4)We are also looking for umbrellas to put up in the garden. If you can lend us one, please also bring them to the office.

GRANDPARENTS DAY- 23RD SEPT

We invite all our Grandparents to come and join us on Friday 23rd Sept for a sing song with the children at 10am followed by tea and cake. If a grandparent is not available please send a special someone to be here for your child.
We ask if the parents can supply a plate of eats for the morning. The eats can be taken to the kitchen. Please provide finger type eats as they are easier to manage.

EQ: Setting and achieving goals and resilience and persisting.
General: The elements Wind, Fire and air and science experiments.
Maths: Adding numbers
Language: Revising tall letters.
On Friday the children were given a group challenge and had to copy and make numbers on pegboards.
Once again they realised and learned that they needed to have someone in charge and that they had to
share the pegs and let one person build.  They are improving when working in a group but it is difficult
to work out who must lead and how to do the exercise . I generally give cues and praise the groups that are working as a team and this prompts the other groups to do the same.
We will be walking to the Fire Station on Wednesday 14 Sept. If it rains we will organise lifts. Please wear school T’shirts and closed shoes. Over the next 2 weeks we will be discussing the elements and will do various science experiments.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the walk around the Wetlands. They loved crossing the stepping stones and going through the bushes. It was a cloudy day but fortunately there were a few flowers out and blooming. I will post pictures on FB.
In maths we have started adding numbers. The children are using counters to help them and enjoy making sums for each other.
We have done another Wordworks story called The Big Wave.  We unpacked a basket of things you would take to the beach and dressed Michaela our model in the clothes. The children were able to identify the objects to the written word.  Most of them do it by looking at the initial letter but some children can sound out the whole word.  We are so proud of them and get so excited when they children take up the challenge of learning new skills.
Dates to remember:
Wed 14 Sept Walk to Fire Station - school T’shirts and closed shoes.
Fri 23 Sept Grandparents day and school closes.
Please let us know if you have someone attending Grandparents Day.
Have a great week.

This week will talk about seasons and what happens to plants and insects during spring. We are going to walk around the school yard identifying and talking about the changes in trees, flowers and insects. We will also learn about conservation using water and sand.
Get your child to do some meaningful work for example help clean their toys, packing away or watering plants. Help them group and pack away their toys in order.

SPARE CLOTHES
Please remember to pack in some spare clothes for your child each day, particularly the younger ones. The children often need to change for various reasons and it becomes a little tricky when there is nothing for them to wear!!!
FACEBOOK
We love sharing pictures from the school day. Teachers only put photos up on Facebook once a week. Any parent who does not want their child’s photos to appear on Facebook should let their teacher know. www.facebook.com/fhpps.

And on that note...

“The more you give away the happier you become.”
We’ve been fooled into thinking that receiving makes us happy. Try giving more and see how you feel.

Regards, Paula
