Historic Kyle Train Depot
Grand Opening Sept. 25!
Following a multi-year renovation, the Historic Kyle Train Depot will host its grand opening later this month. The building houses a museum with displays showing the history of the Kyle Station, under the direction of the Hays County Historical Commission. The depot restoration was largely funded by private donations and grants. The project was awarded a $25,000 grant from LCRA and has received generous donations from the
Burdine Johnson Foundation, Soliref Inc., the Gregg family and numerous individual donors. At no cost to Kyle residents, the city dedicated $250,000 in funds collected through the city's Hotel Occupancy Tax which can only be utilized for projects promoting local tourism such as the historic depot. The grand opening celebration will take place Sunday, Sept. 25 from 1-5 p.m.
From then on, the Hays County Historical Commission will operate the depot from 1-5 p.m. every Sunday and on those Saturdays when Kyle Market Days is taking place. The final Kyle Market Days
of 2016 is scheduled for October 15, the same day as the
Kyle Founders Parade.
Speaking of trains, Union Pacific launched a new safety campaign. See the video here.
The 2016 General Election takes place Nov. 8.  To be eligible to vote in an upcoming election, your application must be received at least 30 days prior to the posted election date to be entitled to vote in that particular election. Learn more on our website.

We all know Kyle is a beautiful place. Our new volunteer program, Adopt-a-Street, aims to keep it that way. Students can even earn community service or National Honor Society volunteer hours. So how can you get involved? Just follow these easy steps:

1. Gather a team. Family, friends, colleagues, sports team, church group...you get the idea.
2. Decide who's good at what. Talk to your team about which task y'all want. Choices include landscaping and litter clean-up.
3. Fill out the Adopt-a-Street application form. This is the part where you get to pick the mile of street to keep looking great. Find the application here.
4. Host a quarterly clean-up event. All supplies for the street clean-up and beautification (e.g., vests, gloves), as well as roadway signage, will be provided by the City of Kyle.

Blue Santa fundraiser for KPEA

Several members of the Kyle Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association were spotted at Friday's BBQ plate fundraiser for Blue Santa. This group is active in many city events in conjunction with KPD: fundraisers, school supply and backpack drives, the Founders Parade float, and so much more. Their service to the community is invaluable! Side note: The Kyle Police Employee Association, which hosted the event, raised more about $900! Thanks to everyone who came out to support Blue Santa!

Kyle Road Bond Updates

Road construction isn't fun, but the end result will be five beautiful new roads — and all thanks to the 2013 road bond passed by Kyle voters. Five roads are in the bond package: Goforth, Marketplace, Bunton, Lehman and Burleson.
