Census completion
Based on preliminary rates obtained directly from collection results (as of August 4, 2016), the overall response rate for the 2016 Census of Population is 98.4%, higher than each of the 2011 and 2006 Census programs! The collection response rate for the long form is 97.8%, the best ever recorded.
The first set of data on population and dwelling counts will be released in February 2017. In the same month, Statistics Canada will release geographic data such as reference maps and boundary files. A full release schedule can be seen here.
In the coming months before the 2016 census data releases, the CDP are ramping up plans to acquire customized cross-tabs and geographies tables on behalf of our CDP members!

32rd Data Consortium
Columbia Basin-Boundary
We welcome the Columbia Basin-Boundary Community Data Consortium to CDP! Located in southeast British Columbia, this consortium is led by Selkirk College through its Columbia Basin Rural Development Institute.
The consortium catchment area includes the Regional Districts of East Kootenay, Central Kootenay, Kootenay Boundary, in addition to Revelstoke, Golden, Valemount and Columbia Shuswap Regional District Areas A and B with a combined population of 161,741 (in 2011).
With the addition of Columbia Basin-Boundary, the CCSD’s CDP now includes community data consortia representing 19.3 million Canadians (58% of the Canada’s population)!

Financial Data and Charitable Donations
Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) annual tables have been updated to include data from 2015.
Canadian business counts, establishment and location counts, employment size and NAICS, June 2016 has been updated as well.
Schedule B
The Schedule B for the 2016-2017 program year is ready! It contains a list of data products to be acquired —including both data tables and analytical tools—as well as the names of data providers, a summary of available geographies, and the data delivery schedule
This document is amended regularly, subject to the availability and cost of data. If you have questions about this process or the data, please speak to your local Consortium Lead or to the Community Data Program Team.
We will no longer be purchasing data from the 2011 Census.
Updates to Envision
Envision5 is the latest released version of Envision, with changes to its interface. It has been enhanced with increased functionality, providing more advanced mapping, reporting and display features.
With these improved features, Envision5 is now more user-friendly and visually appealing. Using the “trade analysis tool”, you can filter your geographies using a map and select the variables you want to analyse! How-to videos are available in the help section of the Envision5 licence. Upcoming CDP webinar
Indigenous populations in Calgary and Alberta: data sources and resources
Sept 20th at 1-3pm MST (3-5pm EST)
How can we use data to better understand Indigenous populations in Calgary and Alberta? In this webinar, The City of Calgary will present an overview of data from a variety of sources including Statistics Canada and Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada.
Following the overview, participants will have a chance to find data and complete simple analysis through hands-on exercises. Although this webinar is focused on data for Calgary and Alberta, most of the information presented will also be applicable to other municipalities and provinces.
To participate in this webinar, participants require Beyond 20/20 software, spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel, and an account with the Community Data Program. A basic understanding of the Community Data Program catalogue and Beyond 20/20 software is recommended.

Changes to the CDP website
Improvements to the website
Some of you may have noticed some changes to the Community Data Program website! In an effort to make navigation easier and finding data simpler, the website has undergone many changes, with a few listed below:
The data by theme is a new search based on key terms relating to the data product, allowing users to quickly look for selected topics and data.
Map-based Data Access Tool
Project coming soon! This mapping tool will highlight important social development themes and will allow users to download data based on their selected geographies from the map. The goal is for a user-friendly solution that will enable all CDP members to easily find, select, and download data.
