Talking about Teaching and Learning by Upper School Head Greg Martin
Being a professional member of the La Jolla Country Day School community invigorates me on a daily basis. Our work as professionals is so varied here that no two days are the same. We have the opportunity to work with bright, energetic students and dedicated, passionate educators. The faculty cares deeply about the students (our number 1 priority!), and they love leading a life of the mind. The craft of teaching and developing professionally is of utmost importance to us as teachers.
The Adolescent Brain by Middle School Head Colleen A. O'Boyle
Last year, Head of School Gary Krahn invited Jay N. Giedd, MD, division head of child and adolescent psychiatry and professor at UC San Diego, to speak with faculty and staff about the adolescent brain. Giedd’s work focuses on neuroimaging, genetics and psychological testing to explore the path and influences on the developing brain in health and illness.
On Thursday, September 15, Greg McKee P’25, CEO of Connect, a San Diego nonprofit that supports technology innovation and entrepreneurship, spoke with the faculty, staff and parents to kick-off this year’s speaker series.
Congratulations to the Lady Torreys field hockey team who won their very first game on Wednesday, September 7. After a 45-year absence, the newly developed LJCDS team was formed thanks to the efforts of seniors (and captains) Emma Volle and Posy Stoller.
LJCDS witnessed a tremendous outpouring of love expressed for Upper School faculty member Glen Pritzker during a memorial service held on campus on September 18. Mr. Pritzker made a lasting impression as evidenced by the many stories, accolades and lessons learned shared by students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends.
