Fall Break Camp at the Recreation Center


Fall Break Camp is Oct. 3-14 for children in kindergarten through 12 years old. Space is LIMITED.

World War I Exhibit at the History Museum


Come take a look at this new exhibit opening October 1. This is an exhibit of photography by German Soldier, Fritz Einstein.

Disc Golf Tournament


The Professional Disc Golf Association will host a disc golf tournament at Cane Creek Park on Saturday, October 8.
Photography Classes

Sharpen your photography skills with professional photographer, Ron Baker. This class takes place on Thursdays beginning    October 27 at 5:30 p.m.

Tai Chi


Join us for a free Tai Chi class on Tuesday, October 4 in Dogwood Park at 7:30 a.m. We also offer lunch and evening Tai Chi classes, as well as a new Chair Tai Chi Offering.
Mindful Meditation and Sound Immersion

Join multi-instrumentalist musician Massod Taj for a unique meditation experience October 29.

Bring your drum or shaker for a free drum circle session at Cane Creek Park October 29 from 2-4 p.m.

Dogwood Park


We are very excited to announce the After Dark Series will add on a Halloween movie this month. Please make plans to join us on a nice fall evening for a free movie! Concessions will be available.

Fall Break Camp

October 3 - 14

Fall Camp at the Cane Creek Recreation Center is for children in kindergarten through 12 years old. Camp is held during Putnam County Schools' Fall Break which is October 3-7 and 10-14, 2016. This program is modeled after our popular Summer Day Camp and is modified to fit the shorter Fall Break. Tuition is $70 per week and space is limited. Campers can be dropped off as early as 6:30 a.m. and picked up as late as 5:30 p.m. Register now! Space is limited!

New Exhibit!


This exhibit of photography by German Solider, Fritz Einstein, opens at the Cookeville History Museum on Saturday, October 1. The museum is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.


Halloween Movie Night at the Depot

 
Join us for our first Halloween movie night at the Cookeville Depot! Bring your lawn chair and enjoy this classic movie under the starts for free! Popcorn and drinks will be available to purchase.
 


Photography Class

 

A class for beginning digital photography students; this course covers camera operation, principles of image capture, composition and subject matter. Areas of artistic expression will also be explored in addition to the organization of images and applications such as e-mail, print and storage. All camera types welcome. Instructor Ron Baker is a professional photographer who provides top-end photography for businesses, families, weddings and events. No class on Thanksgiving Day, November 24. Preregistration is required.


Tai Chi


Tai Chi in the Park
Join us in Dogwood Park, behind the library for a free Tai Chi class on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 a.m. This class is appropriate for all ages and ability levels.

Chair Tai Chi
Instructor Nikki Desch will offer Chair Tai Chi classes at the Cane Creek Recreation Center on Fridays from 11-noon. This program will use the core principles of Tai Chi from a seated position. Class fee is $2 per participant. No registration required.

If you are looking for a way to reduce stress, consider Tai Chi. Tai Chi has developed into a graceful form of exercise that’s now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Tai Chi is often described as meditation in motion. Tai Chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. Tai Chi is also low impact and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. Preregistration is required. Participants can sign up for one or both of these six-week sessions. Instructor Nikki Desch is an award-winning martial artist with 35+ years experience.


Mindful Meditation and Sound Immersion

Saturday, October 29
10 - 11:30 a.m.
Cane Creek Recreation Center
$25 per participant

Learn more about the practice of Mindful Meditation, then while immersed in sound vibrations produced live by a selection of healing instruments, allow your attention to settle on sounds carried by your breath. Instructor Massood Taj is a multi-instrumentalist musician. Massood facilitates workshops and interactive holistic care organizations on the subject of deep listening and mindful meditation. Preregistration is required.
