2016 R. Paul Kerston Award Winners Announced!
Darren Lauscher and Gerry Oleman have been selected by the UBC Health Awards Committee for the 2016 R. Paul Kerston Award.
The R. Paul Kerston Community Educator Award was established in 2014 to honour patient/community educators who have made an outstanding contribution to student learning and/or student professional development in health and human service programs at UBC.
These two outstanding community educators will be honoured for their work at the annual UBC Health Awards Reception in the Spring.
Last month Angela Towle presented the results of an international study on the sustainability of patient as educator initiatives at the 2016 AMEE annual conference in Barcelona, Spain.
The preliminary results from this study were presented at ‘Where’s the Patient’s Voice in Health Professional Education?’ last November.
AMEE is an International Association for Medical Education and the conference attracts over 3000 delegates. For the first time at a major international medical education conference, a session (called ‘The Patient’) specifically focused on patient involvement in medical education.
Developed by an international and multidisciplinary group of leaders in the field at the international conference on 'Where's the Patient's Voice in Health Professional Education?' in 2015, the statement sets out priorities for the involvement of patients in the education of health and social care professionals.
