Metamorphosis
Children are natural qigong masters. They breathe deeply with their bellies. They have boundless energy and shamelessly move and stretch whenever they need to. They express their emotions immediately without suffering from the effects of leaving them bottled inside. We used to see them everywhere as a gentle reminder of life's simplicity. But now, these little masters have been difficult to trace over the last ten years since the widespread development and use of smartphones and tablets.
Many public venues have grown strangely quiet--from cafes to public parks. We've all seen it. A family of hunched-back humans stare at their cell phones while the youngest member is left to fend for himself for self soothing or entertainment. A couple sits at a romantic restaurant with almost no words or eye contact through the entire meal. All it takes is one person to break the conversation with the presence of their phone. We are more disconnected from nature and identifying more with machines.
The average American adult checks their phone every six and a half minutes, and there are now infant and toddler products with built-in slots for devices. Many people have lost the art of face-to-face conversation and conflict resolution. Overuse of social media allows the art of listening to degenerate into segregated tribes of opinions and perpetually unresolved conflicts. Children are at risk of losing the valuable time learning to understand themselves and relate to the world around them. And we are all at risk of losing empathy.
Yet, there are ways to disconnect from the status quo and make meaningful connections with ourselves and others again. We must find ways to master our technology--to use it wisely-- rather than be enslaved by it.
Come to the lecture tomorrow to learn how we can take charge of our technology and, ultimately, take charge of our health.

Modern living results in excessive depletion of Qi through the eyes, resulting in physical and mental diseases. Jade Leaves Qigong is a seated form involving acupressure massage, meditation, and hand gestures. The preparatory massage and qigong make it possible to assist with healing or preventing eye disease. They also benefit the related organs, release internalized anger and anxiety, and detoxify the mind/body from the harmful effects of excessive screen time in the digital age. The class will also include education on liver health and nutritional recommendations.

What is Qigong?
Qigong (pronounced “chee-góng”) is simply defined as moving, breathing and stretching for health and vitality. Its origins date back to over 5,000 years ago in China, and this branch of Chinese Medicine evolved into thousands of forms that are now being made available to the public over the last 50 years. Each form was developed to address certain health conditions or goals. The word qigong means “the cultivation of Qi,” which is defined as the energy that sustains life. If we can learn to harness the power of Qi, we can tap into our own self-healing potential.
