HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US & BIG NEWS!!!
By Ann-Maree, Susan & Max

Can you believe it?  We have been open for two years officially on the 18th of August (pretend you can hear the music... from little things big things grow).  Who would of thought from a simple cup of coffee and a chat we would have an amazing shop (we think so anyway) that allows all of us to buy and create local artisans wares!   Remember to take that step you have been unsure of taking...you just never know where it will lead! (PS. Proof of this ...read our Big News)

We have been so busy this month....We decided to reorganise our shop layout and paint our whole shop.... thus our late newsletter this month! We feel it is working much better for us, more customer friendly, more wall space for artwork and more room for our cool products!

So what is
our "BIG NEWS " we hear you ask.....Seven pages will be relocating in the new year.... but we won't be going far....just next door in fact! (The shop currently known as "Henty on the Hill" antique store. )

We will keep you updated as our vision for next door takes shape and look forward to an exciting future ahead!! YAY!!

SPRING IS IN THE AIR!
We love SPRING ! Who doesn't? Even though we are having sporadic days of warmth and sunshine, between rainy days we can feel the presence of Spring! The whole mountain seems to come out of its rainy cold sleep and awakens with an amazing array of colour. The beautiful sweet scent of the Daphne and Magnolias leave a sweet aroma in the air.  Daffodils are popping up their sunny heads and the Camellias and Rhododendron are starting to burst in to colour.  The trees are just starting to release there buds into bright green leaves. The Mountain is a must visit at this time of the year!
This month we are featuring Gerard Russo Art in our "MEET THE MAKER" blog series!! Check out our snippet below!
FLOWERING QUINCE?

This month we have bringing in some blossom from the garden, we weren't sure what it was apart form a gorgeous flowering blossom.   We learnt it is a Japonica or otherwise known as a flowering quince?! So we did some googling on it and found the following link .....http://www.abc.net.au/gardening/stories/s1971616.htm

We think ours is the "Winter Cheer" Flowering quince as it has the beautiful scarlet blossom and makes us want to "cheer" that winter is nearly over and the warmer months are coming!

What we most intrigued about was about using the fruit to make quince paste!  Anyone have a good quince recipe they can share? Now to keep the birds away from any fruit forming!!!

This month it is Susan's  turn in the spotlight!

  • she had no prior knowledge of the questions
  • she had to think quick for her answers
POP QUIZ - SUSAN

Q: What is your favourite food and least favourite food?
A: Peanut butter lint balls   least favourite - squishy vegetables like thickly cut eggplant

Q:If you could live in a book, TV show or movie...what would it be?
A: I would live in a t.v show called Northern Exposure

Q: If you could take only 3 items to a deserted island, what would they be?
A: My bed and all that is on it, a library and an axe (so i can make things and chop wood) Actually I need to take 5 things on the island.  I need my sunglasses and glasses.  Although technically they would probably be on my head already.  Can they just be a given??

Q: What would you perfect day be?
A: Perfect day - depends on my mood and current situation.  A little sleep in followed by a long slow lunch with friends out side in my backyard.  Once the hired help have cleaned up I would sit back on the couch with wine and my family watching movies until I fall asleep.  Maybe throw in some personal sewing that I get right first time and looks great.

Q: Do you play a musical instrument or would you like too?
A: Don't play an instrument but have it on my retirement plan to try piano.

Q: Whats the craziest thing you've ever done?
A: I don't do crazy,  but I do do stupid.

Q: If you could speak another language what would it be?
A: I would love to speak Spanish.  Also on my retirement list but would like to do it sooner.

Q: What are you most grateful for?
A: I am most grateful for the man in my life who is supportive of whatever I choose to do no matter how stupid it is or out of this world.

"MEET THE MAKER"

Gerard Russo Art "snippet"

Yet another inspiring artist located in the Dandenong Ranges!  We were blown away by Gerard's work when we first saw it.....absolutely stunning!

He makes amazing light-boxes in which he is responsible for every element of every light-box; from sourcing and milling the recycled timber to wiring, etching, constructing and of course, the artwork that goes on them.

Gerard has developed an unique illustrative style that can be described as earnest & heartfelt........
