As predicted, September has been full. I'm racing for one more Finish-A-Long finish, a week-end get-away is in sight, and the list is as long as ever. My Instagram feed is full of #100days100blocks posts, folks finishes up their #summersampler2016s and even more completed #crosscutquiltalong. It's all a good reminder how marvelous it is to be sewing in community.

WHAT'S UP

I've had some fun finishes since our last issue! First, there was a little pattern-testing for Krista/poppyprint - her Quarter Round pattern, which I'd admired since I first saw it (bottom left), and is actually a smaller version of her Round Peg, Square Hole quilt. Then I finished a quilt I names Exchanging Whispers, a "low volume with a pop of color swap" with Bee Sewcial (bottom right). And finally, as part of Louise/I'm Feelin' Crafty's annual Sew Ready to Play series, I made a quilt inspired by my son's favorite sport - Ultimate (center top)!

ROUND-UP

Well into my rounding up a collection of star quilts to share with you, I noticed most of them were 8-pointed stars, an obvious favorite. But don't worry, I found some other delightful varieties as well!

First up is "A cheery quilt for a cheery kid" from The Fabric Studio, with an inspired use of color and pattern. [thefabricstudio]
What fun is this supersized (68" square) star quilt from
Melanie/[miz_bugg]? Check out her post on Instagram for instructions on creating one just the size you want.
The Star Light Star Dark QAL hosted by Jessica/Quilty Habit recently ended, and one of my favorites is Yvonne/Quilting JETgirl's version of Star Light Star Dark. See Jessica's post for quilt-making instructions, and Yvonne's to see her inspiring quilting detail. [quiltingjetgirl]

My own Star Cluster quilt is basically an enlarged version of a block by Judy Martin. Judy's block pattern makes a 12" or 16" block, where my baby quilt measures 40" square.
The use of ombre fabric in
Elaine/Beech Tree Lane Handmade's Ombre Sunshine Quilt gives her quilt a really lovely and unique glow. [beechtreelanehandmade]

State of Being in Jamaica! by
Izzy/Dizzy Quilts is such a fun twist on a star quilt, isn't it? The pattern is by Cheryl Brickey of Meadow Mist Designs and was a Quilt of the Month for the MQG. [dizzyquiltsblog]
Here's another favorite supersized star - a Giant Snowburst Quilt from
Rachel/Snippets of Sweetness, using the tutorial by Canoe Ridge Creations. Click through to Rachel's post to see the quilting she did to really accentuate that star. [snippetsofsweetness]
Prairie Stars by Dorie/Tumbling Blocks is such a unique and striking star, with really wonderful secondary patterns that appear at the intersections of the stars. [tumblingblocks]

Starry Night by Janice/Better Off Thread is a modern star with loads of impact. The free pattern is available on the Robert Kaufman site, and is partially paper-pieced. [betteroffthread]

ON TREND

Fall has definitely arrived in the Pacific Northwest, and I went straightaway to get my Modern Maples quilt out for the season. I made mine referring to the
Modern Maples Throw Quilt tutorial offered by LarkCrafts. You'll find plenty of modern maple inspiration in the Falling for Modern Maples Flickr group, as well as my Modern Maples board on Pinterest.

P.S. Recently the Vancouver MQG hosted their very first Modern Quilt Showcase, and their Flickr group is plumb full of quilty eye candy!
