Please fill out your enrollment forms and get them turned in ASAP. The sooner you turn in your enrollment the quicker Stacy can get your project books to you and our email and  address records can be updated for your leaders!
 
If you have friends not in 4-H invite them to your next club meeting!

 
4-H Member Ages For 2016-2017 4-H Year
 

CLOVERBUDS: 5 to 8, years old AND in Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade (Born 2008, 2009, 2010 or 2011)

NOVICE: 9 to 11 years old or 8 years old AND in the 3rd grade. (Born in 2005, 2006, 2007 or born in 2008 AND in 3rd grade)

JUNIOR: 12 and 13 years old or 11 years old AND in 6th grade. (Born in 2003, 2004 or born in 2004 AND in the 6th grade)

SENIOR: 14 to 18 years old OR 13 years old AND in 8th grade (Born 1998, 1999, 2001, 2000, 2002 or born 2003 AND in 8th grade)
 

Youth who are 19 on or by December 31 of the current 4-H year (2016) are NOT eligible to enroll as a 4-H member. If you were born in 1997 or before, you are too old for the 2016-2017 4-H year. BUT, we would love to have you as a leader/or helper!
 
February 1st 4-H Enrollment Deadline
 
The enrollment deadline for ALL 4-H members, re-enrolling and new members is
February 1, 2017
 
4-H member enrollment forms must be received in the Lea County Extension Office on or before 5:00 pm February 1,2017 for 4-H member to be eligible to participate in county, district, and or state level competitive events ( Judging, Shooting Sports etc..) This is NOT a postmark date. ALL members and leaders must         re-enroll every year.
 
The Lea County Extension Office will accept enrollment forms after 5 pm on February 1, 2017 . However, members enrolling after February 1,2017 are NOT eligible to participate in county, district, and or state level competitive events and will NOT meet the policy outlined in the Lea County Council By-laws . Members enrolling after February 1, 2017 may participate in non– competitive events at the club, county, district and or state level at the discretion of the 4-H club. 
 
A 4-H member is NOT enrolled until the completed enrollment form has been received in the Lea County Extension Office. The enrollment form must be on file in the Lea County Extension Office as mandatory proof of enrollment in the 4-H program. 
 
4-H members may submit their completed enrollment forms to their 4-H Club Organizational Leader or the Lea County Extension Office. 4-H Club Organizational Leaders receiving any complete enrollment forms from 4-H members must submit the forms to the Lea  County Extension Office on or before 5 pm on February 1, 2017 for 4-H members to be eligible to participate in county, district, and or state level competitive events. 4-H members submitting to their 4-H Club Organizational Leaders may contact the Lea County Extension Office, 396-2819, to confirm that the forms have been received in the Extension Office by the deadline.

ATTENTION Eastern NM State Fair Dairy Heifer Exhibitors!

DAIRY HEIFER TB TESTING is being REQUIRED by the Eastern Fair Board. Please contact your veterinarian and schedule your heifers to be tested if haven't done so already. A copy of the negative test report for each animal entered into the fair, must be shown at entry into the fairgrounds, and must be turned into Cindy Wooton at the Junior Livestock Office on the day of arrival. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS. Animals will not be allowed on the grounds or to show without proof of a negative TB Test.

NM 4-H Parliamentary Procedure Invitational Contest

We will be hosting an invitational contest for
Parliamentary Procedure Teams on January 20, 2017 in
Albuquerque, NM. Participation is open to senior 4-H
members. A county may bring two teams. This is in
conjunction with SLR, however, youth do not have to be
participating in SLR in order to compete in the Parli Pro
Contest. Be on the lookout for updated rules and
registration information. Registration deadline will be
December 9, 2016.

New Mexico 4-H Shooting Sports
Leader Certification Dates Set

Our next training will be held in Carlsbad, NM on February 17-19, 2017. The policy for maintaining certification, according to our policies and procedures, is as follows:

5. Maintaining State 4-H Shooting Sports Certification
a. To maintain certification an instructor/leader must be active two out of three consecutive years. If inactive for two consecutive years, re-certification is required.

 
Ambassador/ Diplomat Applications
 
Team fees are increasing to $550 for the 2017 term.
 
Applications for the 2017 Ambassador/ Diplomat

Positions are currently available on the general 4-H website. The applications are due in to Kayla by November 7, 2016
                                            
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Any mature, devoted New Mexico senior 4-H'er who will remain an eligible 4-H member during the year of service, January 2017 through January 2018.
The 4-H member must be a New Mexico resident during the year of service.
An Ambassador or Diplomat cannot serve simultaneously as a State 4-H Council Officer.
The candidate must be an active 4-H member in good standing with his or her club and council.
 
 
If there are 10 or fewer candidates running there will be interviews for just an ambassador team. If there are 11 or more candidates running, interviews will take place for both teams. The candidates will be notified about the selection process once all applications have been received in the State 4-H Office.
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Four senior 4-H members will be designated as Ambassadors and four will be designated as Diplomats.
Ambassador and Diplomat roles are:
 
JOINT RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with junior livestock program, tours, parade, and receptions at state fair. Senior Leadership Retreat responsibilities:
Serve senior age 4-H audience.
Plan and conduct sessions.
Plan and conduct a community service activity. Conduct a workshop.
Present a team Report.
State 4-H Conference responsibilities:
Conduct a workshop as a team.
Team Report
Host a dance.
Assist with operation of contests and workshops.
Assist with the community service activity.
In conjunction with officers, conduct awards.
Present Welcome to 4-H and leadership workshops as requested by counties/districts.
Be able to speak at county programs and to groups when invited.
Assist officers with assignments when invited and funded.
Participate in planning and implementing fundraising activities and events.
Will still perform the role of Ambassador or Diplomat after their term is complete upon request of the State 4-H Office or a county.
Provide training and support to county ambassadors.
Host reception at State 4-H Conference.
Teach recreational workshops at district contests.
Represent New Mexico at JOLT in Heber, AZ.
Assist with New Mexico 4-H Youth Foundation in donor contacts and public relations
 
*NOTE: Ambassadors and Diplomats will be attending JOLT in Heber, AZ for their team trip. Please make sure your candidates are aware of this. They will be doing team fundraisers to cover costs of the trip.
