Excerpt: "....Managers (maintainers) will find excuses for not dealing with all this waste coming from ineffective 1:1 relationships. between departments, those silos, etc. As you read onward, excuses will find their way into your head. The Leader in you knows instinctively this would drastically improve everything - if you took action. Your insecurities will try to convince you to go on to that OPS meeting in 5 minutes instead? Or how about one of these:
“…It’s too time consuming,
…he won’t work with me,
…she’s such a pain,
…I’ve tried before,
…nobody can work with her,
…I don’t like confrontation,
…I don’t know how to approach him,
…I’m right, he’s wrong,
…he/she is hopeless,
…I gotta go get a haircut, ...(or just maybe) I have way more important stuff to do…”
No you don't BTW!
Do you see how just conjuring up these kinds of excuses is WASTE-ful (all that delaying of the inevitable / ignoring people, avoiding, procrastinating)? ‘Pay me now or pay me later’ seems to apply here.
- For sure one of this book’s messages is about the waste in organizations and the waste that leaders allow due to their own in-action.It is not only about the leader’s relational-wastes, but also about how all that waste going on with your people down below in their relationship dysfunctions with others, … caused by your (their boss) own relationship dysfunctions up above them!
