Dear Parents, Guardians, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of Assumption-St. Bridget School,
Thank you to all the parents and guardians who took time over the last two weeks to attend one of the Curriculum Nights. We have uploaded the slides from the general session to our website. If for some reason you were not able to attend, please take time to view the slides. The more informed you are, the better we are able to partner with you on your child(ren)’s educational and spiritual journey.
Last week, all of the Archdiocesan Principals gathered for a two-day retreat and meetings. The focus was on Pope Francis’ first encyclical Laudato Si (On Care for our Common Home). We were given time to reflect upon how we infuse the teachings of this dynamic encyclical into our daily lives as Catholic schools. I invite you all to do the same in your homes. Are there things we can be doing at home, school and in the larger community to promote care for our resources and our Earth? Are we showing gratitude in word and action for the God-given beauty that surrounds us? More to come throughout this year with our Pope’s encyclical in mind.
Students will continue with MAP testing through next week. We have had a number of students miss testing sessions due to illness or otherwise. We will do our best to provide alternative testing opportunities, but not all students will be able to make up just due to lack of time, proctors and space. Parents will see results prior to fall conferences so that you can ask questions at your conference time.
This week all students at ASB are learning about the importance of making mistakes in our school-wide executive functioning/self-regulation lessons. Students engage in activities and discussions that emphasize the tremendous amount of learning that goes on when we fail or make a mistake. Continued discussion at home on the importance of mistakes/failures are encouraged and enlightening as we all continue to nurture our growth mindset.
“You always pass failure on your way to success”- Mickey Rooney
In closing, here is another growth mindset tidbit from Youth Leadership guru, Mike Sissel. He has many great resources online if you look him up. ASB is also working on having him come on site and visit with our students and parents. Enjoy!
In Christ’s peace,
Christina Vierra McGill

LOST AND FOUND:
Happy September! This time of year lots of jackets, sweatshirts and sweaters are coming on and off as temperatures and activities change.
Please make sure your child’s belongings are labeled. This includes sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, shoes for the gym floor, lunchboxes, water bottles…
If your child loses an item and it is labeled it is really easy to get back to you!
Several online companies like Mabels Labels and Label Daddy sell custom labels that don’t come off in the wash or the dishwasher!
Lost items end up in the Lost and Found bin located in the main building by the girls bathroom.
Unlabeled items in the Lost and Found bin unclaimed for a week plus are donated to St. Vincent de Paul Society.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask me - Debbie Dreis or 206 331-0268

With the University of Washington starting school this week, many of our Extended Care Staff members are starting back to school. I just want to relay to families that as our staff starts school, some of their schedules have changed and as a result, the shifts and schedules that they have been working at Extended Care may change. These changes to schedules have also created a potential opening on the Extended Care Staff. If you know someone that is interested in working at ASB School Extended Care, or interviewing for our opening, please refer them advertisement included in this newsletter. Hours can be flexible and can include morning and/or afternoon hours up to five days a week. Morning shifts are 6:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and afternoon shifts are typically 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
ASB School is closed on Friday, October 7, 2016, for Teacher Excellence Day (an Archdiocesan In-Service). There will be no Extended Care available on this day as ASB School will be closed and all employees will be off-site. Sorry for the inconvenience.
If you have not yet registered your child(ren) for Extended Care, it is never too late. We will be accepting registration forms throughout the school year, so families that are still trying to figure out their childcare needs have all the time that they need to get things situated. Please do not hesitate to contact Dylan Pouley if you have any questions or need to make inquiries about our program.
If you have any questions about Extended Care, do not hesitate to contact me, I am happy to assist in whatever way that I can.
Thank you,
Dylan Pouley

Soccer News:
Soccer has officially started for all grades K-8. It was great seeing many of you this past weekend. I plan on making it out to as many games as I can during the fall. I love getting the opportunity to see our students in action and want to show my support for all our coaches and players. I will continue to include the link to the CYO soccer game schedules below:
Coaches of 5th-8th grade teams, please remember to submit your scores to CYO, see the following notes from CYO:
- The coach of the winning team (both teams in case of a tie in soccer) each week will be responsible for either calling in (206.654.4643) or emailing (cyo.scores@seattlearch.org) to report the game score by Sunday evening.
- Failure to report a score so that it can be posted and verified by end of business day the following Friday will result in a loss. In case of a tie, if one team does not report the score, it results in a loss for the team that did not report it.
- It is recommended that coaches call in on game day to report. The score report should include the name of the team, the grade level, the gender, the division (i.e. North, AA Central or AAA South) in addition to the score listing who won and who lost.
