The Newsletter of The International Association of Physics Students
September 2016

Announcements:
The new EC is elected!
Let's welcome the new IAPS Executive Committee for the period 2016/2017! The 'old' team with Henrik Siboni (new position: President), Sabrina Gronow (Secretary), Ana Milinovic (new position: outreach and education) and Anton Saressalo (new position: IT manager) was joined by András Biricz (Event Coordinator), Sabina Dzafic (Treasurer), Timo Eckstein (members and alumni), Tobias Messer (PR manager) and Lucio Milanese (General Officer).
Thanks again to the old EC for all their work and the wonderful moments during all of last years events!

Host of ICPS 2018
The final decision was made at the Annual General Meeting in Malta! There were two bids from Ensenada, NC Mexico and Helsinki, NC Finland. With 74% of the votes it has been approved to host ICPS 2018 in Helsinki, Finland.
Congratulations to the host and we are all looking forward to another great ICPS!

jIAPS 2016

The new edition of the Jounal of IAPS is now online. You can find it on our website or here.
Opportunities:
A competition in 2018?
If the ICPS isn't for you, maybe the Physics League Across Numerous Countries for Kick-ass Students is. Shortened to PLANCKS, it is IAPS' second largest event and certainly also something you might consider to attend or maybe even host. As there were no bids until ICPS, there will be an extraordinary GM later this year. Bids from any member committee are still welcome!

The IAPS School Day (10th of November)
Due to the great success of last years IAPS School Day within the International Year of Light, we are having a second edition of our largest outreach activity. This year's topic will be environment and energy. Throughout the day, our members show school pupils the exiting world of physics so write to ec@iaps.info if you want to take part. There will be further information in next newsletter as well.
Upcoming activities:
Particle and Astroparticle Physics Autumn Programme (PAPAP)
In about two weeks, the Particle and Astroparticle Physics Programme is coming to its second edition. Following last year's - there announced as iaps@GranSasso - great success the Italian Association of Physics Students (AISF) will invite 40 participants to visit the National GranSasso Laboratory, the GranSasso Science Institute (both in L'Aquila, Central Italy) and the INFN laboratories in Frascati, Rome
Latest activities:
View back to ICPS 2016
Only one month ago but it already seems far away - ICPS 2016 on beautiful island of Malta. Looking back we see a week full of lectures, excursions and - for sure - meeting up with a lot of either new or well-known faces, but definitely sympathizers, from all over the world.
It was a great success as always and we are looking forward to next ICPS in Torino, Italy 2017!

Autumn School 2016
In Budapest during autumn 2013 there first took place a joint programme between our two member societies of NC Germany (jDPG) and NC Hungary (Mafihe). Since then there was a yearly event with changing host year by year with ending up in this years Autumn School in Berlin.
During four days 40 participants could visit a wide range of Institutes - like the German Aerospace Center, the synchrotron BESSY, German Metrology Institute and the German Parliament - where physics happens and therefore they got an idea of the diverse possible ways for their future.
