Meet SAIS women working in DC, reconnect with GWL alumnae, and learn more about SWAN's activities and how to get involved in the alumnae network, both here in DC and in other U.S. and international cities.

Save the Date: SAIS Global Women in Leadership's Discussion on Men's Role in Supporting Women's Leadership

SAIS Global Women in Leadership is excited to announce our 2016-2017 academic year kickoff event, "Expanding the Conversation: How Men Can Support Women's Leadership and What's In It for Them" on Tuesday, October 11 from 6:00 - 7:30pm. The discussion will feature NYT Bestselling Author Brigid Schulte; McKinsey partner and leader of McKinsey's women's sponsorship initiative, Mark McMillan; and Brian Glenn, Middle East Policy Director at the Department of Defense. Gwen YoungDirector of the Global Women’s Leadership Initiative and Women in Public Service Project at the Wilson Center, will moderate. 

The discussion will highlight the diverse strategies men can employ to support women's professional advancement and leadership opportunities, and it will discuss the ways men stand to benefit from initiatives that support women's leadership.

OPPORTUNITIES 

World Bank Short Term Consultant - Flagship Regional Report on Gender and Entrepreneurship 
The consultant will work with World Bank Africa Gender Innovation Lab and the Trade & Competitiveness Practice on data cleaning, data analysis, and results write-up in the context of a new flagship report on gender and entrepreneurship. The duration of the contract will be from September 2016 to June 2017 (part-time) for a total of 70 working days with a possibility of extension. Rolling deadline. (More information via SAISWorks)

Gender & Empowerment Paid Internship at Plan International USA
Working with the Gender Equality team, the intern’s work will focus on supporting Plan’s programming, partnerships, communications and marketing, and advocacy and campaigns and Plan USA’s Because I am a Girl initiative in particular. The intern will also support the team’s work to contribute to the improvement of US foreign assistance. Rolling deadline. (More information)

Director of Communications at Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon
Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon leverages on the engagement of national governments, NGOs, and local leadership, to result in country-owned, sustainable programs that allow women and girls to access the care they need to have the opportunity to thrive. PRRR supports efforts to combat cervical and/or breast cancer in the Republics of Botswana, Namibia and Zambia; the United Republic of Tanzania; and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The partnership plans to expand to Latin America in 2016. Rolling deadline. (More information)

Paid Internship at Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon
The intern will work 20‐40 hours a week from September through May (hours and timeline negotiable) as an intern in the PRRR Washington, DC office, providing general support. The internship provides an opportunity to contribute to and learn about the organization’s operations, make contacts in the field of global health, and develop skills related to advancing a global health non‐profit organization’s mission. Reporter for PRI, Across Women’s Lives Initiative
PRI’s The World, public radio’s premier broadcast of all things international, is seeking a reporter for its flagship multi-media initiative, Across Women’s Lives (AWL).  The project’s main focus is to tell the stories of women’s lives in today’s world, across political, economic and social spectrums. (More information)

International Reporting Project Women's and LGBTI Rights Fellowship
The International Reporting Project (IRP) is now accepting applications for reporting fellowships on women’s rights and LGBTI rights. These fellowships are intended to provide in-depth coverage of important, under-covered international issues. (More information)

Graduate Summer Associate at the New York Fed
The Graduate Summer Associate Program provides outstanding students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in public service at the New York Fed. The program is a direct feeder for the Bank’s full-time associate rotational programs. Deadline: November 1. (More information)
