This superb holiday takes in some of Italy's most beautiful Mediterranean coastline, together with the option of spending some time at one of Italy’s most stylish and exclusive resorts – Portofino. Close by is the dramatic Ligurian Coast and the fascinating Cinque Terre,  with its amazing villages of colourful houses precariously balanced between the sea and sky – Both are  within easy reach of our carefully selected accommodation in Santa Margherita.

Liguria, or the Italian Riviera as it is otherwise known, is north-western Italy’s coastal region -  boasting beautiful beaches, picturesque towns and fantastic food.  Italy’s world famous pesto sauce hails originally from here ! The Italian Riviera is a blend of simplicity, Italian style and sophisticated pleasures. Its two Riviera’s are divided by the Gulf of Genoa and this region boasts the most Blue Flag beaches in Italy with some of the clearest waters of the Mediterranean.

Our short break offers a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration, giving you time at leisure at our base in Santa Margherita, along with optional visits to the neighbouring towns of Portofino, Camogli and the stunning Cinque Terre.

Santa Margherita is a sophisticated, coastal resort with fine shops, an elegant piazza and large harbour with numerous waterfront restaurants and bars. Just a short boat or bus ride from Santa Margherita is Portofino with its delightful harbour, quaint multi-coloured houses and central piazza  - perfect for al fresco dining .  It is one of Italy’s premier resorts: managing to retain picturesque charm despite its popularity with jet-setters.

A short train ride away is Camogli, an appealing fisherman’s port  with beautiful buildings, great restaurants and clear blue sea.

During our trip, there will be the opportunity to visit the World Heritage Site of the Cinque Terre: five ancient former fishing villages each with their own Gothic church and cluster of pastel-coloured houses clinging to the rocky slopes.

Optional day trips

Portofino  - Portofino is small & exclusive and favoured by the rich and famous. As well as expensive boutiques, craft and jewellery shops, the harbour is lined with cafes and restaurant tables; a lovely place to relax with a drink and watch the boats come and go.Wandering along the waterfront and the lanes, you'll find yachting boutiques, jewellers and art galleries.

Camogli - A typical, romantic seaside village characterized by highly-stacked and vivaciously-painted houses, Camogli is part of a magnificent natural setting that has enchanted tourists the world over for centuries. It is the place to visit for those wanting to enjoy a mix of relaxation, culture, seaside fun and great seafood.

Cinque Terre - one of the best-kept secrets of the Italian Riviera and one of the most unspoiled areas of the Mediterranean. Cinque Terre became a Unesco World Heritage site in 1997 and offers one of the most beautiful coastlines you’re likely to find anywhere in Europe. In medieval times the name “terra” (land) meant village and today Cinque Terre refers to the five colourful fishing villages which are perched precariously above the sea along this stunning stretch of coast. - Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore
