Health, Wealth, and Happiness in Canada

We look forward to welcoming you in beautiful Saskatoon on October 31 and November 1. The program includes several seasoned researchers and some our most promising young scholars, a special address by Martin Taylor, and a keynote presentation by John Helliwell, internationally renowned for his research on the economics of happiness. News from the Network
We are thrilled to report that SSHRC and CIHR have renewed their financial support to the Network until 2021 by awarding a directed grant of $14.5M. The official announcement was made on September 30 by the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue. Read the news release.

Canadian Policy Science Conference
The 2016 Canadian Policy Science Conference will take place in Ottawa on December 7 & 8 and we are pleased to inform you that the CRDCN will host a special panel featuring Jane Badets, Nancy Ross, Michelle Gauthier and Byron Spencer to discuss how we can maximize the value and impact of policy-relevant research. Longitudinal Surveys in Canada
The sub-committee tasked with examining the potential gaps in Statistics Canada’s longitudinal data portfolio invites researchers to share their views on this question before October 15. Fill in the online questionnaire here.

New Datasets in the RDCs
Several new datasets have been added to our data collection over the past few months, including the second wave of the Longitudinal and International Study of Adults (2014), the Canadian Cancer Registry (2011 to 2013) and the Canadian Income Survey (2014).

Acknowledgments for RDC-Based Publications
We wish to remind researchers that all RDC-based publications (e.g. scientific article, thesis, book chapter, and research report) and presentations should include an acknowledgment of the support provided by the granting councils (SSHRC, CIHR, CFI), Statistics Canada and host university. For your convenience, a draft text is proposed here (see the note to researchers).
