Dear Lord,

Help us to understand
that every encounter with the other
is a seed which can grow
into a flourishing tree,
where many will find rest
and nourishment.

Community Connection to the Classroom
Teachers are seeking parents and alumni with expertise and a willingness to engage with students in the classroom. Keep watching this section of the Knightly News for opportunities to volunteer to share your passion, excitement and professional experience.

  1. The theology department is looking for Red Knight parents and alumni who are living their faith in the workplace, to come in and share how their passions and interests tie into their vocation. The seniors would benefit from seeing how a person finds fulfillment in what they do and, most importantly, how they find God in their work. Ideally, volunteers would be available near the end of September. Consider this a call! If you are interested, please contact Matt Brounstein.
  2. Are you a carpenter, baker, architect, artist, or one of the other many professionals who uses math to create? One of the junior high math classes is looking for BSM parents or alumni members who use math on a daily basis to come in and showcase just how important math is in their profession. Interested? Please contact Kristin Gilbertson.
  3. If you are a native or fluent Spanish speaker, the AP Spanish classes invite you to come and discuss/present on topics like beauty/aesthetics, worldly challenges, family/community, private/public identities, science/technology, and contemporary life in Spanish. Giving students a chance to discuss real world issues with Spanish speakers helps develop better conversational skills and deeper cultural understanding. ¿Le interesa? Please contact Mary Murray.
  4. Do you have connections to one of the Minnesota sports teams? Our sports and entertainment marketing class is looking for people involved with marketing for teams like the Twins, Timberwolves, Lynx or St. Paul Saints. If you have a link to one of these, or any other MN sports organization, and could help get this class connected with their marketing departments, please contact Pat Krieger.
Auction
Invitations to this year’s A Knight for All Seasons will be in your mailbox soon. If you have not already purchased your tickets, please do so soon. There is limited seating at our new venue, the Marriott Southwest. In order to make this event more successful and beneficial for our students, the silent auction committee is looking for sporting and concert ticket donations. Please e-mail Stephanie Drees with ticket donations. If you don't have tickets to donate, but still want to help, please check out the wish list here.

Parking Changes Due to Jewish High Holidays

As our neighbors at Beth El Synagogue observe Rosh Hashanah, Monday-Tuesday, October 3-4 and Yom Kippur, Wednesday, October 12, students will be parking at the Minneapolis Jewish Day School/Community Center (JCC). The Beth El and BSM lots will be available to the Beth El community during the High Holidays. Shuttle buses will take our students from the JCC to BSM and back again after school. Students must use the shuttle and not park in the streets. Students have been reminded to allow an extra 15 minutes of travel time in the morning. Shuttle buses will begin running at 7 a.m., and will run every 10 minutes. For p.m. service, shuttles will run 2:40-3 p.m. as needed. For those with afternoon practices, catch the shuttle immediately after school – shuttles will not run past 3 p.m. Click here for more information and driving directions.

Guidance and College Counseling

For Parents of Juniors

All BSM Juniors will be taking the PSAT, Wednesday, October 19 at BSM. You should have received a letter in late August from BSM’s guidance and college counselors with information about the PSAT test. In that letter we mentioned Naviance Test Prep, a comprehensive online test prep program that BSM has purchased for our students. Every junior has a Naviance account. Naviance Test Prep is located on the home page and we hope you will take advantage of this useful and free test prep option. In addition to Naviance Test Prep, all students received a PSAT booklet, September 8, which includes a full length practice test.
