Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

Parent Ed
The Parent Education Program is looking for volunteers to help with our parenting classes, the ABCs of Parenting and Strengthening Families, on Tuesday and Thursday nights. We are looking  specifically for childcare (0-4 year olds) volunteers, children’s program (5-10 year olds) volunteers and adolescent program (10-14 year olds) volunteers. Classes are from 6:00 to 8:30 pm once a week for either a 7 or 8 week commitment. Email Alice at aclark@scanva.org if you are interested.

Mental Health First Aid Training
Oct. 22 Mental Health First Aid Training in Alexandria. An 8-hour course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. Participants receive a 3 year certification in Mental Health First Aid. Space is limited. Please email aclark@scanva.org for more details or to sign up.

Toast to Hope
This year's Toast to Hope event will be held on November 12, 2016 from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Toast to Hope is our signature fall giving event and offers wine and beer tastings and food samplings plus a Silent & Live auctions. This year's theme is "Be an Anchor for Children". If you would like to volunteer for the event, we will need help in one of three main categories: Set up, during the event, and break down. If you would like to volunteer at our signature fall giving event, please contact Carlota at ccox@scanva.org. If you work at least half of the event (between the hours of 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM) your admission is free!

Rotary Club's Taste for Giving Event
As one of the 2016 Rotary Club grant recipients, SCAN is being invited to help volunteer for the Alexandria Rotary Club's Taste for Giving event, which will be held at the Patent & Trademark Office in Alexandria on Friday, October 21. We are looking for volunteers to help with set up from 4:30 - 6:30pm, to help breakdown the Silent Auction from 8:30 - 9:30pm, and to help cleanup at the end of the evening (around 10pm). Volunteers are welcome to attend the entire event at no cost. If you would like to assist, please contact Carlota at ccox@scanva.org.

Office Furniture Assembly
We have a few desks that need assembling at our SCAN office - if you are interested (and good at reading instructions!) your skills can be put to good use and will be much appreciated by our staff. Please contact LaTeeka Turner at lturner@scanva.org to schedule a convenient time for assembling.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Word Press, Translating, Graphic Design, Video Editing/Production
We have several unique projects in these areas that might just match your unique talents!  Interested? Please email info@scanva.org for more information.  These projects can be done through "virtual volunteering" and on your schedule.
