Dear Parents, Guardians, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of Assumption-St. Bridget School,

Thank you to all the parents and guardians who took time last week to attend our PreK-5 Curriculum Night!  We look forward to seeing all Gr. 6-8 parents this evening at 7:00 p.m. for Curriculum Night, beginning in Fellowship Hall in Assumption Parish.  This general session will have some new information about this year’s School Improvement Goals and new assessment tool, MAP.  Everyone will then have the opportunity to visit their child(ren)’s classroom, meet the teacher(s), meet all specialty teachers, and get familiar with yearly expectations.  Please plan on attending this informative evening.
MAP testing has begun this week for all students in grades 2-8.  Students are responding well with a growth mindset to the new assessment.  We look forward to reviewing the data in our Professional Learning Communities and as co-teaching teams, to inform and impact our instruction with the students.  We will also be sharing the Fall MAP testing data with you later in October.  Please make sure your child(ren) are well rested and well fed, as always.
This Friday, September 23, we will celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit in the Assumption Gymnasium.  It is our first all-school Mass, and we would like you to know that all parents are welcome to attend with us!  Mass begins at 1:30 p.m.  Please plan on attending as we ask the Holy Spirit to bless us, guide us, and keep us safe this year as an ASB community.  Due to Mass, the front office of the school will be closed on Friday from 1:15-2:45, and reopen for dismissal and after school.
Please return your income and home language surveys if you have not already.  We still need more back to reach the statistically relevant 80%, required by the Archdiocese.  Thank you for your help with this!  We hope this will translate into access to federal funding to support instruction in the classroom.
Thank you to all eighth graders, their families, volunteers, and ASB families who helped and attended the school-led Masses this weekend at both Assumption and St. Bridget’s parishes. Students were integrally involved and well prepared in the Mass celebration. Well done!
Now three weeks into school, some suggestions on traffic have come up.  Please try to drop off your child by 8:20 to reduce the last minute rush. Older students can walk a few blocks to school to reduce the number of cars.  Access our Extended Day program, which opens at 7:00 a.m.  And continue to follow all traffic safety rules to help keep our students safe. All new parents and parents of PreK and K will be receiving a hard copy notification of tips and resources to navigate our tricky traffic pattern.  We appreciate ALL parents viewing the traffic video located on our website.  Click here to view it.
As we continue to build the ASB growth mindset/grit culture, you may begin hearing your child say things such as:
“ I don’t understand this YET.”
“If I practice I will get this.”
“Can I try something more challenging?”
As parents, you may also want to try these remarks:
“I like the way you persevered through that task.”
“I am curious about your mistakes; let’s work together to see what happened.”
“You must be proud of the way you embraced that challenging task.”

Thank you for your continued partnership with us on with this educational journey.

In Christ’s peace,
Christina Vierra McGill

LOST AND FOUND:
Happy September! This time of year lots of jackets, sweatshirts and sweaters are coming on and off as temperatures and activities change.
Please make sure your child’s belongings are labeled. This includes sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, shoes for the gym floor, lunchboxes, water bottles…
If your child loses an item and it is labeled it is really easy to get back to you!
Several online companies like Mabels Labels and Label Daddy sell custom labels that don’t come off in the wash or the dishwasher!
Lost items end up in the Lost and Found bin located in the main building by the girls bathroom.
Unlabeled items in the Lost and Found bin unclaimed for a week plus are donated to St. Vincent de Paul Society.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask me - Debbie Dreis  or 206 331-0268

As we are halfway through our third week of school, it I want to thank all of the families that are using Extended Care.  Our numbers remain high and the students are really enjoying all that our program has to offer.  We are still adjusting to our new neighbors and the beautiful gym floor, so some of our routine has changed a bit, but the students are adjusting well and working with all of our staff.  I would like to remind families to make sure that they have registered their children with Extended Care and if they are using our program as a drop-in program (drop-in space is limited) that they let the school know before planning to use Extended Care.

If you have not yet registered your child(ren) for Extended Care, it is never too late.  We will be accepting registration forms throughout the school year, so families that are still trying to figure out their childcare needs have all the time that they need to get things situated.  Please do not hesitate to contact Dylan Pouley if you have any questions or need to make inquiries about our program.

As If families that use Extended Care regularly would like to keep an extra pair of gym shoes at Extended Care, we are more than happy to keep the shoes with us at Extended Care for the children to use.  We are not asking families to get another, third pair of school shoes for Extended Care use, but if families would like to do this, we are happy to store them at Extended Care for the students to use.

If you have any questions about Extended Care, do not hesitate to contact me, I am happy to assist in whatever way that I can.

Thank you,
Dylan Pouley

Extended Care reminders:

  • Extended Care closes at 5:45 p.m. each afternoon.
  • Please turn in your Extended Care registration forms for the 2016-2017 School year.

Soccer News:
Soccer has officially started for all grades K-8.  It was great seeing many of you this past weekend. I plan on making it out to as many games as I can during the fall.  I love getting the opportunity to see our students in action and want to show my support for all our coaches and players.  I will continue to include the link to the CYO soccer game schedules below:
Soccer Game Schedule

Coaches of 5th-8th grade teams, please remember to submit your scores to CYO, see the following notes from CYO:
  • The coach of the winning team (both teams in case of a tie in soccer) each week will be responsible for either calling in (206.654.4643) or emailing (cyo.scores@seattlearch.org) to report the game score by Sunday evening.
  • Failure to report a score so that it can be posted and verified by end of business day the following Friday will result in a loss.  In case of a tie, if one team does not report the score, it results in a loss for the team that did not report it.
  • It is recommended that coaches call in on game day to report. The score report should include the name of the team, the grade level, the gender, the division (i.e. North, AA Central or AAA South) in addition to the score listing who won and who lost.
