Kyle PD at "Protectors of Freedom
Open House"
Several officers from Kyle Police Department, including Officer Dan Pruitt and Officer Dago Pates, visited with students and staff at Simon Middle School on Friday. It was part of the Open House for Protectors of Freedom. Audience members interacted with the officers, asking questions about what it's like to be a police officer, what kind of training is needed and how things have changed in law enforcement over the past decade or so. They even touched on some of the hot button issues being portrayed in the media lately. Above is Pates is hugging one of the teachers after she told students how the officer helped save her friend following a serious car wreck earlier this year. Below left Officer Pruitt answers questions from students. Below right, seventh grader Matthew Murphy thanks Officer Pates for his service to the community.

Historic Kyle Train Depot
Grand Opening This Sunday! (Sept. 25)
Following a multi-year renovation, the Historic Kyle Train Depot will host its grand opening this Sunday. The building houses a museum with displays showing the history of the Kyle Station, under the direction of the Hays County Historical Commission. The depot restoration was largely funded by private donations and grants. The project was awarded a $25,000 grant from LCRA and has received generous donations from the
Burdine Johnson Foundation, Soliref Inc., the Gregg family and numerous individual donors. At no cost to Kyle residents, the city dedicated $250,000 in funds collected through the city's Hotel Occupancy Tax which can only be utilized for projects promoting local tourism such as the historic depot. The grand opening celebration will take place Sunday, Sept. 25 from 1-5 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
From then on, the Hays County Historical Commission will operate the depot from 1-5 p.m. every Sunday and on those Saturdays when Kyle Market Days is taking place. The final Kyle Market Days
of 2016 is scheduled for October 15, the same day as the
Kyle Founders Parade.

We all know Kyle is a beautiful place. Our new volunteer program, Adopt-a-Street, aims to keep it that way. Students can even earn community service or National Honor Society volunteer hours. So how can you get involved? Just follow these easy steps:
1. Gather a team. Family, friends, colleagues, sports team, church group...you get the idea.
2. Decide who's good at what. Talk to your team about which task y'all want. Choices include landscaping and litter clean-up.
3. Fill out the Adopt-a-Street application form. This is the part where you get to pick the mile of street to keep looking great. Find the application here.
4. Host a quarterly clean-up event. All supplies for the street clean-up and beautification (e.g., vests, gloves), as well as roadway signage, will be provided by the City of Kyle.
