Executive Director Notes
Thank to our sponsors and volunteers who helped us with our Business Retention & Expansion (BR&E) project. We held our Community Commencement meeting last week and are excited to move into the implementation stage and work on the priority projects that resulted from the findings. Thank you again to the University of Minnesota Extension Office for their help. The University sent a press release late last week. Bill George is senior Mr. George is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Medtronic. He joined Medtronic in 1989 as president and chief operating officer, fellow at Harvard Business School, where he has taught leadership since 2004. He is the author of four best-selling books. All attendees will receive a copy of his latest book courtesy of MidWestOne Bank. 

Mr. George currently serves as a director of Goldman Sachs and The Mayo Clinic. He has served recently on the boards of ExxonMobil, Novartis, Target Corporation and Minnesota’s Destination Medical Center Corporation. He is currently a trustee of World Economic ForumUSA, and has served as board chair for Allina Health System, Abbott- Northwestern Hospital, United Way of the Greater Twin Cities, and Advamed.

2016 New Recycling Law

WHAT IS THE LAW?

A new state law requires most commercial buildings – including many businesses, sports venues, restaurants, and churches – to recycle starting January 1, 2016.

City News

SPORTS CENTER OUTLOT
The City received application from Twin Cities Orthopedic for development of two storymedical office building on the third outlot on the sportscenter site.

BREWERY/TAP ROOM ORDINANCE
In October, the City will be considering code language changes to allow brewpubs, distilleries, taprooms and breweries.

STREET LIGHT UPDATE
Street lights in City Center have been received by the City and will be installed over the fall and winter.

CITY BUDGET
City Council approved a preliminary levy with a 4.98% increase. To the median value home in our community, this will be $3.60 annual increase. Commercial property saw an increase of 5.84% on the median value property ($874,750) from the county.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIR
City hired of Nolan Wall, City Planner in Mendota Heights, to serve as our new Community Development Director. Nolan served Mendota Heights for three years. Prior years were with a consulting firm. Also include one year as an intern with Vadnais Heights. Mr. Wall begins on October 10th.
