Building tailored treatment plans for children and youth

Child Development Institute (CDI) is the only accredited children’s mental health agency in Canada delivering innovative, evidence-informed, therapeutic programs and services to children, youth and their families who are dealing with mental health issues complicated by learning disabilities (LDMH).

CDI’s Integra Program delivers individual and family counselling and therapy to help children, youth and their families, helping them to better understand LDMH and develop coping mechanisms to help deal with the challenges they face at home, at school and within the community.

Families can meet together with our psychologists and clinicians to discuss how the results in their child or youth's psychological assessment report speak to strengths and difficulties across a variety of everyday contexts (e.g., school, home, community and social relationships) in order to build a better-tailored treatment plan that fits the child/youth's learning profile.

CDI’s in-house psychological services are also now available to families participating in other programs including our School Treatment Program.

Top Toronto chefs helped bring “A Taste of Home” to children living in shelters

Chefs from 10 of Toronto’s top restaurants participated in A Taste of Home Evening in support of CDI’s Family Violence Services programming.
On June 6, 2016, 200 guests gathered at a fundraising event at the Bay-Adelaide Centre featuring Toronto’s top talent in the kitchen, all in support of CDI's Family Violence Services, including Taste of Home, our after-school cooking program for children living in shelters.

“We bring the comforts of home into their new environment by teaching children how to prepare simple, healthy, budget-friendly and familiar recipes,” says Lisa Sura-Liddell, Manager of the Taste of Home program. “At the same time, children learn strategies to cope with the stresses of living in a shelter, not to mention the issues that may have brought them there, such as family violence, poverty and homelessness.”

Through the generous support of the chefs, guests and event sponsors, the event raised over $50,000 for our Family Violence Services programming, including the Taste of Home program. Thank you to all who supported the 2016 event!
